Lately I've been trying to track down some movies that I used to watch on a local tv stations "kung fu theater" on sunday mornings in the late 70's. The one I'm thinking of was about a young man that desperately wanted to learn kung fu from a temple, most likely Shaolin. He got in but no one would teach him. Some of the scenes I remember: The dining area was reached by skipping across small floating logs. If you fell in the water you had to try again. If you couldn't get across, you didn't eat. The lead character spent all night trying learn how to do it. At one point the lead is practicing with a bamboo pole that becomes broken in two places, inspiring him to "invent" and master the three section staff.
