which Sammo films are worth getting?

I've been browsing various Asian DVD sites and I was wondering which Sammo hung films are worth getting? The main criteria is plenty of quality martial-arts action. Need not include Jackie Chan films since I believe I've seen most if not all their collaborations. If Sammo is not the star could you also mention what his role in the film was, for example choreographer, director, co-star, cameo. Cheers.

Off the top of my head --

Magnificent Butcher

Enter the Fat Dragon

Millionaire's Express

Spooky Encounters (not really a ma movie, but the fight at the end is classic)

Eastern Condors (more of an action movie, but once again great climatic fight)

Knockabout (Yuen Biao with Sammo co-starring (he's the sifu))

Skinny Dragon, Fatty Tiger (Karl Maka/Sammo)

Sammo actually had bit parts (larger and smaller) in quite a few Shaw movies.

the Victim

Warriors 2

Millionares Express

Enter the Fat Dragon

Magnificent Butcher

First 3 Lucky Stars movies but those have Jackie so you might have seen them.

The Running Man

Skinny Tiger, Fatty Dragon is very under-rated. Great movie.

Although for a martial arts movie, I would recommend "The Odd Couple". Really good one as well.

Funny thing is, Sammo flicks are infamous for not having this. Never plenty. His stuff usually has the end fight and maybe if you're lucky, a couple of 30 second sprinkles. For a guy so good at it, most barely contained any.

I've always wanted to see Pedicab Driver but could never find a decent version.

It's such a cool flick, that even a shitty version is worth watching. Funny, touching, and awesome action!

Agree. It's worth getting JUST for the Sammo vs. LKL fight.

Haha i love how someone asks for some good sammo movies and nearly every movie he's done gets a mention, good indicator of the quality of his work. I will say though that i much preferred sammo's old school movies to his modern days, a lot of his modern days had very little action and a lot of crass comedy, a lot of the time i found myself twiddling my thumbs waiting for some action to appear. His old schoolers had tons of action and usually had a solid plot behind it. So id recommend

The Victim (his best flick in my opinion)

Magnificent Butcher

Knockabout

Prodigal Son

Warriors Two

Odd Couple

Eastern Condors

Pedicab Driver

Cheers for the recommendations.:xd: I don't suppose there's an English subtitled version of the pedicab driver?

Just going through everyone's recommendations I'm surprised there is no love for Sammo's collaborations with Jet Li. It's been a while since I saw once upon a time in China and America and the evil cult but I do remember enjoying them

Yeah, there's a (imbedded) subtitled version available of PEDICAB DRIVER. You can get it at HKFLIX. All the versions were transferred from either VHS or laser disc, and there's not much difference between any of them. The fight (hand to hand, then with long staffs) between Sammo and Lau Sifu is one of my top 20 fights of all time!

ONCE UPON A TIME IN CHINA AND AMERICA is a wacky good time. Though I may try it again, when I saw EVIL CULT (aka. KUNG FU CULT MASTER) I absolutely hated it.

nearly every movie except for The King Swindler.

Kung Fu Cult Master was pretty bad as well.

I love When Taekwondo Strikes, but face it, all he did in that movie was get his tail kicked.
