Member xianzai Posted June 29, 2009 Member Share Posted June 29, 2009 Back of the box summary: "Love knows no limits in the grand period romance, Lady Jade Locket. A young fighter inadvertently falls for the spirit of a beautiful woman, who died years earlier avenging her own father's murder. The beautiful ghost is in fact the sister of his fiancee. Experienced as an actor in many such romances, director Yen Chuan keeps the tone perfect. Plus, with period specialist Li Li-hua in the lead and the attractive and acclaimed Li Ching playing the ghost girl, he really can do no wrong." Yeah, right. The only good part of this movie is Li Ching in a dual role doing her usual charming Chinese Opera moves (this movie isn't a Chinese Opera but feels like one except for the lack of singing). Li Li-hua is horribly miscast as the male scholar; there's no chemistry between her and Li Ching.
Member SadShawFan Posted June 29, 2009 Member Share Posted June 29, 2009 Absolutely correct. By the way: You should never take those synopsis notes on the backside of the IVL-DVD releases seriously as the one who wrote them has no idea about Shaw Brothers and most of the movies at all. The guy or girl simply never saw most of the films before and just made up some texts by looking at stills or the cover alone!
Member Winfred Posted June 29, 2009 Member Share Posted June 29, 2009 Li Li-hua ain't no young fighter in this one. She's plays a helpless scholar in a role more suited for Ivy Ling Po. I'm afraid I yawned through this one although I like the setting.
Guest Markgway
I thought it was pretty good actually.
