Member Athena Posted October 7, 2010 Member Share Posted October 7, 2010 Hello everyone ! I have been thinking about the question Alexandra posted earlier about what leading lady is best suited for Meng Fei ... I am still not certain but this photo is from one movie paring that I felt didn't work out AT ALL !! It is from the movie Shaolin Hero aka Faster Blade, Poisonous Darts aka Great Massacre... It is probably my least favorite of his leading ladies..But others may disagree ! & it is not that I dislike the story ...I love the actual Wuxia story "The eleventh son" ,but it may have been better adopted in the Shaw version "The Swordsman & the Enchantress " despite the sort of messed up the ending there too. Member Andrew Leavold Posted October 7, 2010 Member Share Posted October 7, 2010 Hi everyone, Robbie F alerted me over at the AV Maniacs forum that there was a Kung Fu Cinema thread on Meng Fei that was going haywire, so I had to check it out! You guys are absolutely amazing in your devotion and knowledge, and so I felt compelled to introduce myself and ask for your advice. I'm an Australian writer and filmmaker working on a massive research project on genre filmmaking in the Philippines. I'm a producer on Machete Maidens Unleashed!, a documentary feature which is doing the rounds of international film festivals at present, and also writer and director of an as-yet-unfinished doco called The Search For Weng Weng. My university thesis and book is called Bamboo Gods and Bionic Boys, and is a hopefully in-depth analysis of both Pinoy genre films, and the export films that were made for the international market, eith er by local producers or foreign companies. I'm currently working on my chapter entitled "The Pinoy Bruce Lees and the Hong Kong Connection", and following the careers of several Hong Kong actors making kung fu films in the Philippines. Meng Fei and Bruce Le are the obvious choices along with Jason Pai Piao and Chen Sing. I was only aware of three films Meng Fei made in the Philippines: Wild Whirlwind/Twin Fists Of Justice, Blood Hero and The Dragon The Lizard The Boxer (please see my blog: http://bamboogodsandbionicboys.blogspot.com/search/label/Meng%20Fei). Thanks to you I discovered, to my amazement, The Return of Bruce - with Elizabeth Oropesa! Not only that, but Ms Oropesa is also writing on the forum! You guys have truly made my day. Am I missing any other productions shot in the Philippines? Incidentally there's a Philippines connection with Prodigal Boxer and King Boxer - Bobby A. Suarez (They Call Him Chop-Suey, Cosa Nostra Asia, the Cleopatra Wong films) was an unlisted producer and international sales agent! I look forward to your comments, and Ms Oropesa: I'd love to interview you for my project once I arrive in the Philippines in 2 weeks. Mabuhay! I guess the actress is Yeung Gwan Gwan (Yang Chu Chu) there is not too much data about her, she appeared in three taiwanese movies (with Meng Fei) and not further reference. Watching Great Massacre and her performance, I think she is not at the same level of the others mentioned here. No great scenic presence, weak acting, expression... agree with you. Member slazenger_7 Posted October 8, 2010 Member Share Posted October 8, 2010 Hi everyone, I'm currently working on my chapter entitled "The Pinoy Bruce Lees and the Hong Kong Connection", and following the careers of several Hong Kong actors making kung fu films in the Philippines. Thanks to you I discovered, to my amazement, The Return of Bruce - with Elizabeth Oropesa! Not only that, but Ms Oropesa is also writing on the forum! You guys have truly made my day. In catching up with this thread, I must add that I had seen RETURN OF BRUCE(1977) as a kid but only now do I realize its significance as a film in which Meng Fei and Elizabeth Oropesa co-star ! What a find by Alexandra... It refreshed my memory. All I remember was Mr. Fei being an undercover cop in this film who is after the villains, who are among many things, human traffickers. If I remember correctly, Cheung Lik [Chang Li] played Bruce Le's younger brother or cousin who gets killed by Lo Lieh. And believe it or not, I do remember a kung fu lady with nice legs kicking some serious ass. That's about it...I'm going to definitely track down this film and see it again, now that I found out that the leggy actress was Mrs. Meng Fei. What a starcast that film had : Bruce Le[Huang Kin Lung], Meng Fei, Lo Lieh, Chiang Tao, etc... This film is a rare treat. I remember watching Bruce Le [orignal acting name Huang Kin Lung] as a guest on the Tom Hatten hosted Black Belt Theater TV slot. Martial Arts master Hawkins Cheung was also a guest on that particular telecast. Sifu Cheung's top pupil Larry Sequoia was the main demonstrator in that show. The aggressive Sequoia was getting the better of even his master Hawkins Cheung, which annoyed Bruce Le. He even made a comment to Tom Hatten and others that Hawkins shouldn't let his pupil dominate their demonstration drills. Finally, Bruce Le himself joined in the drills opposite Larry Sequoia. Within seconds, Bruce Le put Larry Sequoia in check. In the second drill, Bruce Le had Sequoia flat on his back with a sweep kick. However, immediately after these two drills, Bruce Le emphasized in a sincere handshake with Sequoia, Le had no antagonism toward Sequoia, whatsoever...That it was a martial arts drill session in which Le was demonstrating his skills. It was a gracious gesture on the part of Bruce Le [Huang Kin Lung]. It also humbled the cocky Larry Sequoia. I had one question for Athena...Is your new avatar by chance a picture of yourself ? It is a nice picture, indeed.
Member Alexandra Posted October 12, 2010 Author Member Share Posted October 12, 2010 Now, revisiting the topic about the ladies who were in Fei Fei's movies (after a brief resume about Doris Lung, Vilma Santos and Angela Pan) now is Pearl Cheung Ling. Pearl Cheung Ling was born in Taiwan in 1955. She was actress, writer, producer and director. It was called in the cinema industry the "weirdest heroine". She played surrealist characters, maybe with a touch of female thinkings about facts of life, but in "psychodelic" ways. Pearl was a female director in a male dominated industry, and that was a merit for her career. Concerning her relationship with Fei Fei, she directed him (and performed the character of the Silver Fox) in Matching Escort (1982). It was the first time that Fei Fei had a woman directing him. About her life and career, there is not too much information, I only found that she performed in 20 movies, directed three of them, wrote some plots and after the '90, nothing about her life. Well, a simple "remembranza" of Pearl Cheung Ling. Alexandra

Member Bach van phi Posted October 13, 2010 Member Share Posted October 13, 2010 I still prefer Angela Pan over others.. However, undeniably that all women acting with Fei Fei were beautiful.

Member Alexandra Posted October 18, 2010 Author Member Share Posted October 18, 2010 Today, we celebrate in Argentina the Mother's Day (third Sunday of October). I know that this date is not the same around the world, but at least, is one day for give all our love to the woman that give life. It was for me a special day, my mom went to my house, she is 83 years old, and never lost her smile, and her deep turquoise eyes, despite all the pain and sufferings because me (some troubles in my life that pull me a little down). I want to share this day with all the mammas here, and of course we have in this place a special mamma, she is Liza! (Gabriel, are you reading this message? ) The gift I gave to my mamma was a collectible perfume, a sixties argentinian scent she adored, I looked for this fragance for a year, and finally I got it and gave to her, she was astonished, deeply touched, because sometimes, a perfume is the way for remember fantastics life's glimpses. My gift for all the mammas here is a video. As an italian descendant, is obvious. Liza, love you. All the mammas, present or not, all the love. Member Alexandra Posted October 27, 2010 Author Member Share Posted October 27, 2010 I have a question for all the people who practice Shaolin... In Kung Fu of Eight Drunkards, where Meng Fei plays the character of a pupil of a real drunken master, and he learns how to fight drunk, practicing his skills with cups in his hands and walking over wine jars... making movements that reminded me the drunken style.... is the real drunken style he shows in the movie or a mix between other disciplines? Thanks! Alexandra

I've been watching you in Philippines films for years now and am a huge admirer of your work. Yes, I am most definitely a Meng Fei fan, and not just the films he shot in the Philippines. I have only just returned from three weeks in Manila doing more research on my book and documentaries, and was so sorry to leave... Weng Weng was the two-foot nine James Bond of the Philippines, and was my starting point for my Philippines adventure. I'm now six months away from completing by book on genre filmmaking in the Philippines, and would love to interview you some time over the phone for the book, if possible.
