Member Shaolivevil Posted June 18, 2009 Member Share Posted June 18, 2009 One of my favorite memories growing up in the 80's was going to the video store with my father and older brother on Friday and Saturday nights, renting movies, mostly action and martial arts. Many titles have been covered already but I'd like to mention a few rarities I can recall fondly: EXTREME PREJUDICE (1987) THE NINJA MISSION (1984) DOGS OF WAR (1980) C.A.T. SQUAD (1986) THE SOLDIER (1982) AVENGING FORCE (1986) RIVER OF DEATH (1989) WHITE PHANTOM (1987) CHINA WHITE (1989) MERCENARY FIGHTERS (1988) RED SCORPION (1989) JAKE SPEED (1986)
Member ben Posted June 18, 2009 Member Share Posted June 18, 2009 As someone else said, aside from the Asian films, the 80's action films are classics. Lethal Weapon, Die Hard, Robocop, Rambo, Indiana Jones, Terminator and too many others which have already been named in this thread.
Member massa_yoda Posted June 18, 2009 Member Share Posted June 18, 2009 To me, many things pale in comparison to Aliens. This was as epic as it got in the 80's. Honorable mention to Indiana Jones Trilogy and The Terminator.
Member GwaiLoMoFo Posted June 19, 2009 Author Member Share Posted June 19, 2009 To me, many things pale in comparison to Aliens. This was as epic as it got in the 80's. Aliens was lightyears ahead of the game when it came out. Man I remembered being blown away by the epic size of everything (sets, action, aliens...) in the film. Truly ground breaking. One of my favorite memories growing up in the 80's was going to the video store with my father and older brother on Friday and Saturday nights, renting movies, mostly action and martial arts. Same here, except it was action, martial arts and horror. My father had a friend who owned a conveniece/video store and I pretty much could rent ANYTHING I wanted on the weekends. Even movies a kid my age probably shouldnt. And how about Mr. Kosugi: Ninja 3:The Domination (btw, I never in my life have ever seen or heard of Ninja 1 or 2...) Pray For Death Revenge Of The Ninja 9 Deaths Of The Ninja (so bad its good)
Member TibetanWhiteCrane Posted June 19, 2009 Member Share Posted June 19, 2009 I think they (Cannon) felt that Enter The Ninja and Revenge Of The Ninja was sort of parts 1 and 2, even though the stories and characters were unrelated!

Member AlbertV Posted June 21, 2009 Member Share Posted June 21, 2009 I was a huge fan of 80's B-movie action films such as: 3:15: The Moment of Truth (1986) Adam Baldwin plays a former member of a high school gang who is released from juvenile prison and decides to reform. The gang isn't happy and as a result, terrorize him and his new girlfriend, forcing him to fight them all one day after school. Merchants of War (1989) Asher Brauner and John Barrett (yes, THAT John Barrett) lead a group of ex-mercs out to rescue a former friend of their who has been kidnapped by a terrorist organization. Yor: The Hunter from the Future (1983) Sword and sorcery flick starring former Captain America Reb Brown as the titled character. If I remember right, I think this was originally an Italian action film redubbed for the American market. Super Fuzz (1981) Terence Hill is a cop named Dave Speed who gets hit with radiation and gains superpowers. Ernest Borgnine plays his aging partner and Dave's "kryptonite": anything that is the color red. And I mean anything (the very end will prove it)...great catchy theme song too.
