I've just been informed that Shek Kin has passed away in Hong Kong at the grand old age of 96.

I thought he died a few years ago.

Wow... sad news.

Although obviously 96 is an amazing age, and he lived an amazing life and made a pretty big contribution to HK martial arts cinema, and is an internationally recognizable 'villain' for his legendary role in ETD.

Shek Kin was an industry legend.

One of the original Kung Fu players and a great character actor.

R.I.P.

A shame that there aren't many current stars to carry the torch passed on by these legends.

Veteran actor Shek Kin dies

AIG(6).jpg

Seasoned actor Shek Kin has died of kidney failure. He was 96.

Shek, who joined showbiz in 1940 as an actor in bit parts, became famous for his roles as the main villain who pits his wits in the Wong Fei Hung movies against the legendary folk hero.

Shek, pictured pitted against Bruce Lee in Enter The Dragon, joined TVB in 1975 and retired in 1993.

Rest in peace Mr. Han. :(

Though he often played villains, in interviews he always appeared to be a warm, friendly man, full of energy and anthusiasm even into his later years.

One of my favorite roles of his is a small, but comedic one from MILLIONAIRE'S EXPRESS where he does a satire of his characters from the black and whit Wong Fei-hung movies. Very funny, with great timing.

Thanks for all the great performances! ;)

"You have our gratitude."

Terrific talent. He was awesome in Young Master with Jackie as well.

I think I need to watch ENTER THE DRAGON again this weekend.

Aww, COME ON! First Kwai Chang Caine, now Han?! WTF?! Well, Shek Kin did have a good two decades on Carradine. *sigh* Well, I'm not a very religious person, but I'd like to think Shek Kin is at least hanging out with Bruce right now...

from a fairly recent interview, he looked unreal silver hair and an almost silver face with an immense happy smile still in high spirits

I saw that too. He was among the group of extremely happy, positive, and friendly actors who frequently play nasty villains, that includes Baldy, Beardy, Fung Hah-on, Yuen Wah...

The Chinese god of dramatic villainy has moved on to impress somewhere else. Farewell Shek Kin, thank you for the countless hours of pleasure your talent has given me.
