Guest the golden dragon
This movie called Punch of Death seems to be the sequel to the Prodigal Boxer. Is this correct? What is its Shaw title? I think this is one of Shaws early (modern) classics. I say my roots because these two films were some of the first Shaws I ever saw. The emotion boiled up in me watching this last night. Making me realize just how important these films were in my life. I saw my first Shaw Brothers and classic kung fu movies in the mid 70's. Of course I was a young man then. But these movies guided me to some of my life goals that I am still bringing to fruition TODAY. I thought the coregraph was quite amazing for this was early Shaws of the modern era. Meng Fei was terrific as well as our two villians. Who played his mom? She was awesome! When did this film premier? What do you all thik of this classic of classics? Guest peringaten
I thought Punch Of Death was an aka for Prodigal Boxer...? which isn't a Shaw flick... Love this film very much, more than very much... It feels Shaw-ish, like it should be a part of Chang Cheh's Shaolin Cycle. Not just in subject matter, but concerning treatment and stylistically. A classic! Guest peringaten
So this film preceded Chang Cheh's Cycle works... for some reason, without really thinking about it, I always superficially assumed this was inspired by those films... I wonder if CC took any influence from this film then. Were there any other early Fang Shih Yu based flicks?
Guest Markgway
The Sequels to 'The Prodigal Boxer' were 'Prodigal Boxer II' (aka 'Young Hero of Shaolin') and 'Secret of the Shaolin Poles'.
