it took me a while, but i started warming up to this guy. his budgets seem to rival the Shaws, but every thing i had seen him in was just so boring. i recently caught a decent flick called the Samurai[im sure this isnt orig. title]. anybody reccomend some decent Roc Wuxia?

I liked the first half of Silver Hermit from Shaolin Temple (released as The Silver Spear on DVD from Venom Mob). Then, it goes batshit crazy in the second half and kinda lost me. But, it is decent...

The Samurai is available from Rarescope as Love and Sword (as noted by Lei Kung). I really enjoy the flick, well worth the $5.99 I paid for it. Granted the english dubbed track on the dvd is not in sync.

Nonetheless, it's an awesome film!

from the 2nd half of his career (post mid-70s), i`d recommend to check out lost swordship, imperial sword, 18 bronzemen, elimination pursuit off the top of my head.

jade dagger ninja and shaolin kids too kind of, although they re not 'all that'.

mask of vengeance was piss poor (excuse my french). eagles claw & butterfly palm is kinda wack too. 2 movies even a die hard roc tien fan should avoid.

Great titles mr. iron......

My fave is PAI YU CHING....

His swordplay skills are matchless in these flicks....

Good to know you are still around mr. iron, This is EMAXX from flashlegsrare......

Hope all is well.

shadowman !

I hate to admit it, but i miss the site, heard they are going out of business, seems rather ironic at a time when asia/asians products are so global.

Did someone used legal action to force them out..?????

thanks !

Tien Peng is one of my favorite male stars of this genre (classic kung fu). His good looks and acting ability and his way of fighting has always been a joy for me to watch.

Maybe Tien will fit into that hard to find, a famous kung fu star who was NEVER a villian,

I personally can not think of any of his films I have seen where he plays a baddie..

Can anyone tell me of a film where he played a villain?.

And you thoughts on this star.

I know we've had this discussion before on this forum, and I don't remember what the end results of that discussion were. Are there any kung fu movie stars who never played a villain? I can't think of any villain roles for Roc Tien. There's a couple I know of where he's sort of a villain, but he's still the star/hero of the movie, so those don't count... He'd be amazing as a villain. Hopefully he got the opportunity to go all out evil at least once.

Morgoth, you just gave me a hearty laugh right now. And yes I started a recent forum W/ this question.

So far no, male star had a perfect record. LOL! MMMH! How about the female stars?

Maybe Tien Peng is the one.

The perfect hero of all his films.

I'm a big Tien Peng fan as well, so I've seen most of his films, and I can't recall him being a villain. Although I haven't seen it for a while, his darker character in Elimination Pursuit gave us a glimpse of how good he would have been as a villain.

I am always curious when I see an actor make a long string of movies, then blam! No more output, not even cameos. Did he get injured? Die? Move on to TV work? Become a chef like Tommy Lee (Gam Ming)? Get into real estate? Or just drink himself into a coma or wind up as a bum?

Really? One of Taiwan's greatest choreographers became a chef? Huh.

Has anyone ever verified this? I've read this rumor for years but never saw anything concrete.

Can't find the link, but supposedly he wound up in Texas as a cook or chef. He was referred to as eccentric and lazy by Wong Tao. He was talented, that is for sure. Still, it seems like 1984 or 85 hit, and the old school style of movies just died. Or maybe went to TVB....Still, no news on Roc Tien?

BTW do you all mean by Roc Tien;

Tien Peng

In the last month I watched 8 of classic swordplay movies made in Taiwan.

Simply awesome.

Luv this guy.

It was discussed here three years ago but no one ever produced any confirmation.

I've seen it reiterated on other sites but again, no hard evidence.

Just internet rumor until someone can prove it otherwise....

Good question.

"Hands of Death" is one of my favorites.

I've also got the one where he's a pool shark, can't recall the name.

"Equals against Devils"!

Someone on Vimeo created a really random set of clips from a terrible dubbed version. Kind of funny-

http://vimeo.com/album/1569942

He is referred to as the "late Roc Tien", but I think this is an attempt at satirizing Game of Death, not that it needed any help.

Lo Meng kissing dudes? Wang Yue broke? Wang Yu can't sell his house? Wow.
