Member Milkyway Posted April 30, 2009 Member Share Posted April 30, 2009 New film by Daniel Lee starring Donnie Yen, Zhao Wei and Wu Zun. Synopsis: During the Ming Dynasty, the Emperor of China possessed one weapon greater than all others, the Jinyiwei, an elite force of assassins recruited from street orphans. Trained in clandestine combat from childhood, the Jinyiwei were masters of the 14 Blades, eight being for torture, five for killing, and the last blade being reserved for suicide when a mission failed. Above the law, with a license to kill, the Jinyiwei devoted their lives and lethal prowess to the service of the Emperor alone. When the Imperial Court is taken over by evil eunuch JIA, the best of the Jinyiwei, QUINGLONG and XUANWU, are assigned to steal a list identifying those still loyal to the Emperor. However unbeknownst to Quinglong, the Jinyiwei have fallen under the control of Jia, and during the mission Quinglong is betrayed by Xuanwu and barely escapes with his life. Now as the most wanted man in the land Quinglong must seek out and rally the loyalists to rise against Jia and restore the Emperor to power. In his way are the deadliest assassins in the land, his former brethren, the Jinyiwei. http://twitchfilm.net/site/view/donnie-yen-russell-mulcahy-new-projects-announced-by-arclight/

Member Yakuza954 Posted May 7, 2009 Member Share Posted May 7, 2009 The man doesn't know how to film action.. Yes, he may actually turn this into a good film, but the non-stop dizzying camera movements would stop anyone from noticing.

Member Milkyway Posted May 21, 2009 Author Member Share Posted May 21, 2009 Qi Yuwu training for new action film MediaCorp actor Qi Yuwu will be featured in new action film Imperial Guard, directed by Daniel Lee. In the film, he will be fighting against Hong Kong action star Donnie Yen again. Imperial guards were like secret agents in the ancient Chinese palaces with complicated identities that made it impossible for one to gauge if they were good or evil. But such "mysterious" characters are always attractive material for movies. Qi will take the role as an imperial guard with excellent martial arts skills. At the press conference, Qi said his role is somewhat in between a villain and a good man. "No villain will think they are evil. Each of them has a reason why they are bad." He added, "I've started martial arts training in Hengdian last week and I hope to be able to square off in the fighting scenes." Audiences can expect to see the results of his training during the Chinese New Year season next year. Other casts in the movie include Wu Chun and Vicky Zhao. http://sg.news.yahoo.com/xin/20090515/ten-146-qi-yuwu-training-new-action-film-3c1b9bc.html
Member HyperDrive Posted May 21, 2009 Member Share Posted May 21, 2009 With that name change, it resembles Secret Service of the Imperial Court a lot more than it did before.
Member Milkyway Posted July 8, 2009 Author Member Share Posted July 8, 2009 Appending Polished Blades to 14 Blades -- 14 Blades -- In 14 Blades, the Imperial Guards are raised and trained to be ruthless killing machines since childhood, to execute whatever questionable orders from the Imperial Court or Emperor without questions, and Green Dragon (Donnie Yen), being the most highly skilled of them all, is no exception. Each of them possesses a chest containing 14 blades, and the Imperial Guards would use different weapons under different situations, with 8 being used for all forms of tortures, and another 5 for killings, and the last one for hara kiri. And they are also experts at psychological warfare, negotiating or weakening the enemies' minds in order to accomplish their missions. But deep within his heart, there's still an iota of conscience left in Green Dragon, who begins to question its motives and runs away from the organisation while being hunted down, when he discovers a big conspiracy as an evil eunuch gains control of the Imperial Court and Imperial Guards. While on the run, Green Dragon becomes acquainted with Qiao Hua (Vicki Zhao), daughter of the chief of an Armed Escort Agency. Initially, like all Imperial Guards do, he's merely making use of her. However, he gradually falls for her while she finds out that she's being made use of. Under director Daniel Lee's invitation, several veteran martial arts stars, Chen Kuan Tai, who plays one of Donnie Yen's greatest nemesis, Wu Ma, Sammo Hung, Xu Xiang Dong, Chen Zhi Hui, etc. will also be making guest appearances in the film, giving Donnie Yen, who sprained his knee on the set a few weeks back in Hengdian, a field day in fighting. Other cast members include Kate Tsui, who would be playing an assassin, and Qi Yu Wu, who plays an Imperial Guard who betrays his buddy Green Dragon in order to climb up the social ladder. 14 Blades has just moved location from Hengdian to Yinchuan, and due to the incredibly hot weather as a result of global warming, the cast members who are wearing layers of thick clothing would sweat till their costumes are soaked. To combat heat, the production would transport ice cubes and ice water to the set and employ huge fans to cool the surroundings. http://www.wu-jing.org/happenings/archives/668-Appending-Polished-Blades-to-14-Blades.html#extended

To combat heat, the production would transport ice cubes and ice water to the set and employ huge fans to cool the surroundings. Interesting they're blaming that on global warming when David Chiang encountered a similar occurance when doing a city invasion scene for a movie. From the Elegant Trails minidoc interview: "That scene was shot in the New Territories. It was summer, The weather was so hot that two horses died of heat stroke. I was wearing a black top... on top of which I wore a fur vest... and I also needed to tie on a fur headband. It was really tough. We only did a few shots a day. It was too hot. You didn't need to go out at all before you got completely soaked." And I don't think David Chiang had the luxury of fans and ice back in the 70's, although I could be wrong. Also, note that Yinchuan is in the desert next to Inner Mongolia. I refrained from posting about this until I found that Chiang interview.
Member Milkyway Posted July 25, 2009 Author Member Share Posted July 25, 2009 6 Pack vs 14 Blades -- 14 Blades -- Donnie Yen, who's currently filming 14 Blades in Yinchuan, has a scene in which he gets to flaunt his fabulous 6-pack abs, that director Daniel Lee especially arranged for him. For the sake of this scene, Donnie Yen's been on diet and working out since 2 months ago. Donnie Yen says that ,14 Blades has the most fights among his recent works and is the most taxing as well. The more he fights, the more thrilled he is. He will be fighting various opponents practically throughout the film, with Ku Huen Chiu providing the choreography. The most anticipated fight scene would probably be his fight against an equally capable martial artist Xu Xiang Dong, providing their blades would ever cross in the first place. http://www.wu-jing.org/happenings/archives/676-6-Pack-vs-14-Blades.html

Member DiP Posted October 12, 2009 Member Share Posted October 12, 2009 Donnie Yen Is a Royal Spy in New Martial Art Film The new role for Hong Kong action star Donnie Yen has been revealed in the upcoming romantic martial arts flick "14 Blades," the Sina.com reports. Yen will continue his action hero routines to play the head agent of the royal espionage network during the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644), a relatively dark period in China's history when the feudal court made unprecedented use of a spy system to run the ruling machine. The action veteran's character, named Qing Long, is forced to trek on a desperado journey after being embroiled in a court conspiracy. "14 Blades" also casts mainland actress Zhao Wei and rising star Goh Kiat Chun (or Wu Zun), a Bruneian heartthrob popular among teenage girls. Director Daniel Lee, who designed the royal spies' costumes based on his in-depth research of historical documents, will lead the cast members in promoting the film at the 18th Golden Rooster Film Festival, the best-known film event in China, to be held on October 14-17 in southern China's Nanchang city. The film is slated for screening during the blockbuster-filled Chinese New Year season in next January. http://english.cri.cn/6666/2009/10/12/1722s521847.htm
