Member noodles Posted April 14, 2009 Member Share Posted April 14, 2009 Scandinavian based label Another World Entertainment will soon be releasing three Shaw Brothers titles starring Danish 70's sex-kitten Birte Tove: Sexy Girls of Denmark, Bamboo House of Dolls and Mini-skirt Gang. This will be the first time Mini-skirt Gang is released on any home format, sadly there will be no English subs (or dub) for any of these titles. I don't know where the first poster got the screen grabs from but they originate from Mads Jensen in Denmark who has written the booklets for two of the disks. It was Mads who first posted the four scans yesterday at Dvdmanics and Uncut.dk. Noodles probably got them from there or even from my own blog (I copied them about 3 seconds after Mads had posted them, haha). Only Scandinavian. And to Winfred who suggested the company add English subs; well, AWE don't have the rights for English subs and altho I have suggested to them a couple of times that they go the Koch way (i.e. provide English subs but not mention it on the cover or menu) they don't want to risk a lawsuit so that's not gonna happen. Needless to say they could earn quite a bit of money if they provided them. Now it'll take about 2 minutes after the disks have hit the Scandinavian streets before someone puts out a boot with subs. I'd rather support the official releases than a fan-subbed boot. But if I have no other choice... My Scandanavian is... er, a bit rusty. I'm not on their payroll, I just provide liner notes and supplemental stuff for some of their releases and generally try to steer them towards films I'd like to see released (this one was high on my list). It's a fairly good transfer, looks a tad more rough than what you would expect from Celestial, since they didn't do their usual clean-up - that's actually a big plus if you ask me. And of course it's too bad that it won't have English subs - I assure you that Jack, myself and others have made serious efforts of talking AWE into including English subs - but rights for English territories are much more expensive than just acquiring the rights for Scandinavia. Mostly intereted in Mini Skirt Gang as I already own the Celestial releases of the other 2. Subtitles would be nice, please don't get me wrong, but I'm glad it's being released period. One day as they pick the pocket of a Japanese tourist, they are seen by male gangsters who work in the trade as well. Between the girls and the men a fight over possession of the wallet, which has been stolen from the Japanese, ensues. The boys are defeated, and then agree to join in with the girls and to work for them. But as they try to win the love of two women of the female gang, the things get rough and hilarious as they always lose out to the ringleader. NOT Trailer for the Film on the DVD-only for Sexy Girls of Denmak and Bamboohouse-this the celestial trailers. The Picture Quality is very BAD!!!looks how a vcd or the bad Image DVDs. It's definitely not an exploitation movie, so don't let the title fool you. The movie is pretty forgettable, except for one fight sequence with Brit which is shot as a sepia-toned Chinese Opera fight. Other than that, it shows a lot of different locations in HK, a lot of different thefts/scams/reverse scams, some bits of inventive physical comedy, and (I think) Chu Kong (CYF's friend in John Woo's film The Killer) in a bit part. Very limited nudity. Turns out the DVD is actually in Mandarin so I was able to understand a little bit. None of the 4 subs were of much use to this English-speaker. The Picture Quality is very BAD!!!looks how a vcd or the bad Image DVDs. You may be talking about some particular technical issue with the presentation. But just watching it, I wouldn't say the picture quality was bad, just not as impressive as a lot of SB wuxias/operas. The film was in good condition with a bad splice in one scene, a small vertical dark line in another the only real damage I noticed. Certainly I saw more detail than I would on a VCD; YMMV -- maybe NOT seeing that the main 'funny' male aways seemed to have a runny nose/sweaty upper lip would have made the movie more appealing. The movie didn't have the impressive colors of a lot of other SB films, esp. the wuxia and opera ones. Just to get it over with I watched the Celestial Sexy Girls of Denmark after Mini-skirt Gang and it looked about the same, minus the minor print damage. So, perhaps modern SB films from the 1970s just don't look as good when restored as the SB wuxia films of the same era? In any event, it's perfectly watchable. Just not very good.
