Member falkor Posted April 11, 2009 Member Share Posted April 11, 2009 Apparently, the production company of Ong Bak 2 (and now 3) wants to try and persuade Jackie Chan to star in Ong Bak 4! It's not even that funny really... you've probably heard the news. If I were Jackie I would jump on the bandwagon. Ong Bak 2 seems so perfect with Tony no doubt having given it his all, I seriously doubt him and Panna could pull it off again let alone improve on it. I mean, it has it all, including a good soundtrack and numerous styles--Old School based. All actors in the kung industry must surely want to be in the Tony Jaa business right now? Jackie was born to pull shapes, yet he went down the wrong path. I see this as a good opportunity for Jackie to finish his career with Snake, Crane, Drunken, Dragon Fist (Wing Chun) and whatever else he can bust out with! He reminds me of Van Damme who needs to go back to Bloodsport style films, but failed to complete Kumite. On the other hand, I think some people won't accept Ong Bak 2 as being a smash hit outside of Thailand (it has yet to prove itself on other circuits), and there will always be criticism. However, most of the bad reviews were from people with too high expectations or those wanting more character development, acting ability from Jaa, and explanations as to where the ninjas came from and the relationship between the 2 bad guys. Of course they criticise the ending, though what they want to know will probably be revealed in Ong Bak 3. Nevertheless, I think Jaa and the production company have got it right about Ong Bak 2, and I think they are doing Jackie a favour and paying him a compliment more than anything by giving him the opportunity. I saw Tony Jaa performing some mixed shapes captured on film from the premiere of Ong Bak 2; the guy is unbelievable off camera and only used 1 take because it was live. I see Tony Jaa as the next Bruce Lee... I don't know any other living actors who have as much talent as Jaa. Its obvious to me that when I compare Ong Bak 2 with Ip Man--two great movies of 08--Ong Bak 2 comes out on top. You can see Ong Bak 2 is a superior martial arts film! Not many people will agree with me I know, but in my opinion, Ong Bak 2 is the best film made in the last 20 years. Tell us what you think about any of the issues I have raised, but please make sure you have watched a good copy of the film at least twice. A lot of things made more sense to me 2nd time round. Administrator KUNG FU BOB Posted April 11, 2009 Administrator Share Posted April 11, 2009 Falkor, I agree with your post. This surpassed IP MAN for me and I think Tony Jaa is the most talented, exhilarating martial arts actor today. I get the same thrill watching him as I did (and often still do) when I first saw Bruce and Jackie doing their best work. I loved ONG-BAK 2, as did my friends, and I'm really surprised that there is so much criticism of the film. To each his own, but I can't imagine what these critics need to see to be impressed? Member Tosh Posted April 11, 2009 Member Share Posted April 11, 2009 Why Jackie Chan? To high profile, his salary could make 5 Ong Baks. There are several old school actors out there I'd rather see, how about Jaa vs Lo Mang? I say bring the Toad on! I've yet to see either movie so I can't pass judgement on which movie is better yet, I think Yen is on top of his game at the moment to, but I'll agree Jaa's overall talent is the best out there at the moment. Member lillippa328 Posted April 12, 2009 Member Share Posted April 12, 2009 I would LOVE this!! Imo....i kinda look at Jaa as the next Jackie simply because he is becoming very versatile and he does all his own stunts and is an increadble athlete aswell as martial artist... Please let this happen!

Member falkor Posted April 12, 2009 Author Member Share Posted April 12, 2009 Why do you only watch martial art flicks? Why do people watch movies in general? Answer: to be entertained. I don't find it particularly entertaining to watch people kiss, hug or make love. I don't really enjoy seeing an actor pretend to be something they're not, ie. a character. I don't primarily watch movies to make me laugh, cry, or trigger any similar emotions. If I have any time at all to watch a movie then it has to be a martial arts flick! I find them stimulating for the brain, very artistic, and highly entertaining. They bring on an adrenaline rush like being on a roller coaster with a wow factor as if to say "This is amazing! I can't believe he just did that...rewind". Unlike a 5 minute romance scene in Titanic, every second counts in a choreographed kung fu fight, hence take an incredible amount of work and skill on behalf of the cast and crew. Kung Fu/Martial Arts flicks provide the ultimate in escapism, and are capable of containing everything you get in any other film--plus much much more--in terms of action. Right now (Sunday night), there is a talent show on terrestrial UK TV. The candidates can entertain their audience however they like by singing, dancing, playing an instrument or whatever, but you can bet that the winner will be the individual/group who put on a performance most similar to martial arts. I'm praying that Ong Bak 2 will get a good distribution in the West with Jackie Chan and major kung actors taking note, so that the general public realise Old School/styles are the way to go! Some of my fellow collectors are happy with Old School Kung Fu films being the specialised form of entertainment they are, but I would like them to become popular as a mainstream form of entertainment. The Ong Bak series is our best hope yet, though I'll certainly be keeping my eyes peeled for Ip Man 2 after what Franky Lau was saying about Hung Gar being featured. Member peringaten Posted April 12, 2009 Member Share Posted April 12, 2009 Yeah, you're missing out. Films are deep; kung doesn't remotely fill all brackets of mental stimulation. Titanic is no serious comparison.
Member falkor Posted April 12, 2009 Author Member Share Posted April 12, 2009 You'll have to give us some examples. I think a lot of people watch films for the wrong reasons and look for certain stimulations because of their emotional problems. They end up thinking they are gangsters or something because Celebrities end up becoming role models in their lives, influencing how people behave socially and what it means to be cool. My idols are Hwang Jang Lee and Tony Jaa. I may talk arrogantly like Silver Fox, though forget trying to be like them... I've got no chance of learning a triple aerial kick, but Tony Jaa does it in Ong Bak 2!

Member teako170 Posted April 12, 2009 Member Share Posted April 12, 2009 Right now (Sunday night), there is a talent show on terrestrial UK TV. The candidates can entertain their audience Agreed. Reality TV / sitcoms / variety shows are like junk food. They provide a temporary reprieve but nothing of benefit in the long haul. Cinema on the other hand is more than just mere entertainment. It is the great storyteller of our time. It enlightens. It transports. Cinema shows us the human condition. It educates us about the world we live in; past and present. It inspires. It awakens. It defines. We are cinema and cinema is us. It goes well beyond simple entertainment. Cinema is Plato ...Homer ...Aristotle. It is Chaucer ... Shakespeare ...Dickens.
