Member Graeme Noble Posted March 6, 2009 Member Share Posted March 6, 2009 What are your favourite contemporary setting Shaw Brothers movies? My favourites are: Mercenaries From Hong Kong The Delinquent Big Bad Sis Rolls Rolls I Love You (no action) Millionaire Chase (no action) Lady Professional
Member Tosh Posted March 6, 2009 Member Share Posted March 6, 2009 The Delinquent is my favorite. Loved Duel of Fists, one that doesn't get the credit it deserves, still need to see the sequel Angry Guest. Of course Chinatown Kid. I still need to see the Teahouse. Technically Boxer's Omen is Modern day but not sure how contemporary it is. Just saw Big Bad Sis - Awesome!
Member Shaolivevil Posted March 7, 2009 Member Share Posted March 7, 2009 Some of my favorites: THE DELINQUENT CHINATOWN KID DEAD END THE SINGING KILLER THE TEA HOUSE MERCENARIES FROM HONG KONG
Member teako170 Posted March 7, 2009 Member Share Posted March 7, 2009 C-Kid all the way for me but I know my man Tosh is digging this cat -- so I tossed a little something extra onto the barbie for ya, m8... Member peringaten Posted March 8, 2009 Member Share Posted March 8, 2009 Men From The Gutter easily takes it as best modern-day Shaw for me. I'm quite partial to the Criminals series.
Member kungfusamurai Posted March 10, 2009 Member Share Posted March 10, 2009 What about Heroes Of The East? Those cargo ships at the docks don't exactly look like Chinese Junks! KFS
Member odioustrident Posted March 11, 2009 Member Share Posted March 11, 2009 Mercenaries from Hong Kong did the gunplay thing before it was big. Another example of how Shaw Studios was the likely first in every big action trend of the 60's/70's/80's.
Member Chinatown Kid Posted March 14, 2009 Member Share Posted March 14, 2009 Although campy I really liked Deadly Angels, which had some nice action and some very sexy ladies like Da Na and Evelyn Kroft.
Member Winfred Posted March 14, 2009 Member Share Posted March 14, 2009 Dark Rendezvous from 1969 gets my vote. Unfortunately this Ling Yun/Angela Yu Chien/Chiao Chiao/Tina thriller will probably remain in the Shaw vaults forever.
Member shaolin drunkard Posted March 14, 2009 Member Share Posted March 14, 2009 How about 5 tough guys?trailer looked pretty cool.4 riders, angry guest did not appear for me.
Member vengeanceofhumanlanterns Posted March 14, 2009 Member Share Posted March 14, 2009 Angry Guest is cool. Chang Cheh playing the role of big boss was great. Four Riders is actually a pretty good basher flick.
Member Li Ho Posted March 15, 2009 Member Share Posted March 15, 2009 No such thing.Only period films rule.I dont like seeing Asians in bell bottoms and polyester shirts any more than I like seeing non Asians in the same getup.
