OK I got to see an early sneak preview of this movie and I really enjoyed it, good action and a good solid story. I don't want to give away too much so I'll wait until it comes out and then we can talk about it some more.

Bryan (Neeson) has taken early retirement from the CIA in order to live closer to his teenage daughter, Kim (Maggie Grace). Bryan's government work kept him away from Kim for much of her childhood, and he's now trying to make up for lost time. When Kim announces that she's taking a trip to Paris with her friend Amanda (Katie Cassidy), Bryan is apprehensive about her traveling on her own. His worst fear is soon realized, as Kim and Amanda are abducted upon their arrival in France. Bryan immediately springs into action, using his well-honed CIA skills to piece together clues from a single, frantic phone call he received from Kim. He hops a plane to Paris, determined to rescue his daughter before she falls off the grid completely. With some help from his old CIA buddies, he tracks down the kidnappers--an Albanian crime ring known for selling young girls into the sex trade. He quickly takes matters into his own hands, plowing his way through Paris's underworld as the clock ticks down and the bullets fly. His search propels him into the upper echelons of a massive crime ring, putting him closer and closer to his beloved daughter. Neeson is known for tackling extremely cerebral roles, so it is interesting to see him in full-on action-hero mode. In TAKEN he is no less than a crime-fighting machine--a Bourne/Bond hybrid with a deathly serious baritone. And while he spends most of the film firing Uzis and snapping necks, he still manages to deliver a moving performance as an estranged father fighting for what he loves most in the world. The film undeniably owes a lot to Neeson's acting chops. He manages to raise this rather thinly plotted, deeply violent film a bar above your typical action fare.

Great film, released in Europe last year.

I heard it suffered cuts to get a rating in the USA, not sure how true that is.

Three words...

French guys' wife.

My jaw dropped.

YEAH Drunken Monk! No kidding huh? Same reaction here... both times it got me.

This is a great film. Saw it twice in 24 hours. Once by myself to thoroughly enjoy every second without any chatter, and a second time with my wife. XD Very well done. Don't worry- NO SPOILERS HERE. It starts off nicely, with good acting, a steady, realistic setup, and you think you have a pretty good idea of what's going on. Then suddenly, it's like the movie grabs you by the front of the shirt and says "What?! You thought you knew what was going on? You didn't realize I was going to be THIS kind of movie?" and before you can stutter out an answer it slaps you upside the head a couple of times and shouts "Yeah, that's right! I'm not playin' around!" as it takes you on it's crazy little journey.

Sure, it has a few plot holes, but the whole thing moves so fast, and keeps you so involved, that it barely matters. Shame US theater-goers are watching the edited to PG-13 version, but I'm sure it will get an uncut DVD release. Highly recommended!

Yep, great film! Hollywood needs to learn from these guys... we don't exactly need their B.S. shaky cameras, big budgets, and curving bullets...

Taken hits the nail. It's basically Commando Part II. =)

The UK cinema version (15 cert) was also edited in the torture scene. I haven't seen the film yet so can't say anymore than that. The UK DVD (18 cert) is fully uncut.

Yeah, I loved it, but wish they had gone with an R rating. The French guy's wife scene made the character for me. Too often the hero won't cross a certain line, like punching a woman or shooting someone in the back - Liam crossed it, and I loved it!
