Member mpm74 Posted December 18, 2008 Author Member Share Posted December 18, 2008 I still can't get over how good this movie is. What other movies are this good from the Shaw library? First 10 people who answer this question will get more low budget questions from me. Seriously. What other movies are this good? Dead Space. Chaser. 12 Gold Medallions. What else do you need in 2008? I can think of dozens that are even better, a few that are about equal, a few that are almost as good, and a few that are worse. What did you like about 12 GOLD MEDALLIONS? Give me some parameters here and I'll name some films for you.
Member mpm74 Posted December 19, 2008 Author Member Share Posted December 19, 2008 I can't explain it. I like the simplicity of the story. I like the violence and blood. Just a well-paced movie. Not one dull moment.
Member SamuraiDana Posted December 19, 2008 Member Share Posted December 19, 2008 I can't explain it. I like the simplicity of the story. I like the violence and blood. Just a well-paced movie. Not one dull moment. After a quick scan of my Shaw Bros. files on films I've viewed, here are other comparable Shaw Bros. movies: GOLDEN SWALLOW (1968) THE FLYING DAGGER (1969) BROTHERS FIVE (1970) HEADS FOR SALE (1970) THE IRON BUDDHA (1970) THE JADE FACED ASSASSIN (1970) KING EAGLE (1970) SWORDSWOMEN THREE (1970) A TASTE OF COLD STEEL (1970) VALLEY OF THE FANGS (1970) DUEL FOR GOLD (1971) THE LADY HERMIT (1971) SWORDSMAN AT LARGE (1971) AMBUSH (1972) THE BLACK TAVERN (1972) That should keep you busy for starters. Many of these have IMDB reviews. Remember, these are comparable, i.e. broadly similar to MEDALLIONS and were made at Shaw Bros. in the same general period. Some are a little better than MEDALLIONS (e.g. BROTHERS FIVE, LADY HERMIT) some are not quite as good (DUEL FOR GOLD, A TASTE OF COLD STEEL), although you may like them just as well. To be honest, I seem to remember liking MEDALLIONS, but I can't find any notes on it in any file where I would have had them. So I'm not sure how much I liked it. Member peringaten Posted December 20, 2008 Member Share Posted December 20, 2008 Not many better than 12 G's from that era imo, makes many look somewhat more pedestrian. Bells & Fastest Sword are good though. I'm leaving Chang Cheh out of the equation here.
