Is there news whatsoever on any R1 releases in 2015?

So far none. I had emailed Well Go a few months ago and they said nothing new on the horizon. Everyone else who previously put Shaws out were no longer putting Shaw's out. I find it hilarious that Brave Archer 2 is still on pre-order on Amazon.

Things are not looking good for any more releases. According to this article explaining why the movies did not sell so well in the U.S., all the DVD companies have given up selling Shaw Brothers movies.

http://stethacantus.hubpages.com/hub/How-The-North-American-Release-of-the-Shaw-Brothers-Movies-Was-Botched

I guess we will have to hope that some new company will begin releasing more of the films. Perhaps we could write to Shout! Factory and ask them to begin releasing the films. They are currently releasing a lot of classics from Golden Harvest.

There are a few Shaw Brothers releases that were not included on this thread. Perhaps because they were just co-productions. But for you completests going through Shaw Brothers withdrawls, here are a few more you can order from Amazon

Cleopatra Jones & the Casino of Gold

Blood Money ( the 90 minute re-release version of Stranger and the Gunfighter )

The latest release of Legend of the 7 Golden Vampires as part of a bargin set.

I did note that in the second post in this thread about coproductions. I did post the following in this thread though:

.. There are only a few co-productions on R1/R0 NTSC. I never got around to making a list on that, partially because a couple of them like Blood Money (Videoasia) I am not sure if they are grey market items or not. But don't forget the two Shaw/Hammer coproductions Shatter (OOP on Anchor Bay) and The Legend of the 7 Golden Vampires (this is on a few releases; I have the duo Anchor Bay set with the shorter release version Seven Brothers Meet Dracula .) Rarescope came out with Amazons and Supermen.

Also (for completeness sake, I do not think technically it is a coproduction) Then there is the Rolling Thunder R1 (or is it R0) release (two different releases) of The Mighty Peking Man which is also released by Celestial so I did not include it on the list (plus at one point there was talk of a proper R1 release, but that did not happen.)

I had recently watched my copy of Shatter a few weeks ago. There is two different OOP releases of Shatter BTW. I only have the single release, not the double release The Abominable Snowman/Shatter.

Cleopatra Jones & the Casino of Gold is a legit release from Warner Brothers on their Warner Archive Collection label. These are recorded DVDs and not pressed, made on demand.

As far as I can tell, Videoasia is one of those companies that release public domain movies, including films that are public domain through a technicality. Sort of like Goodtimes Home Video. As far as I can tell, Columbia Pictures still owns the copyright for Stranger and the Gunfighter, and had released it on home video way back in the 80s as a cropped VHS tape. Some other distributor released an edited version called Blood Money for the grind house circuit, and that shorter version was allowed to lapse into public domain. It can also be found on Echo Bridge's "8 Movie Western Pack V.4", but I have no idea what the quality of their print is.

The Legend of the 7 Golden Vampires seems to be legit. The now out of print Anchor Bay release used the masters from the older Roan Group laserdisc. I own both the Legend of the 7 Golden Vampires and Shatter laserdiscs, and probably should have upgraded to DVD when it was still in print. Legend of the 7 Golden Vampires is the only movie I ever returned to a store because it was a bootleg. Back in the 80s ( or perhaps early 90s ) I was with my mother, shopping at the Alexander's Department Store in Green Acres Mall on Long Island when I passed their blink-and-you-will-miss-it dinky little home video section. One so tiny that even Woolworth's would laugh at it. A single five foot wide wall of shelves behind a locked glass display case, as if there were any videos in there worth shoplifting. Most of the videos were movies I never heard of. But one movie caught my eye. It was Legend of the 7 Golden Vampires, released by Star Classics. I had caught this movie on television a year earlier and had been trying to find it on video since. So I bought the VHS tape and brought it home. But I could tell that this VHS tape originated from something taped off of television. You could even see the beginning of commercials where the guy who taped it hit the pause button, and even a station logo at one point in the film. I was outraged. I wanted the uncut version, not something someone taped off of television. I was so angry that I talked my mother into driving me all the way back to the mall, and demanded a refund. The strange thing is that less than a year later I was willingly buying those bootleg Shaw Brothers videos with the SB logo on the box.

The OOP Anchor Bay releases for those two films (Shatter and The Legend of the 7 Golden Vampires) are both legit if I did not make myself clear. I own those two, but do not own Cleopatra Jones & the Casino of Gold which I should get sooner or later.

I almost feel obligated now to buy The Shadow Boxing out of principle. If it's indeed one of the last Shaws to get an official release here for a while...not good.

Having seen The Shadow Boxing, it should be on your list no matter what. It is not among Lau Kar Leung's best, but ranks there with Return to the 36th Chamber as one of his best guilty pleasure films. Had it been part of the Black Belt Theater television broadcasts, I believe it would have become one of the more fondly remembered films. There have been some comments here that there is only one fight in the whole film. Not the case. There are fight scenes throughout the movie. The only problem I had was that Well Go did not provide an English dub track.

Thanks for the information. Much appreciated. I updated the post accordingly. I did not want to double dip on those two makes less sense now that I know the BCI copies have so much more on them.

Thanks, I did have that information for Disciples on the first page of the thread but forgot to put it above.

I'll check out the Tarantino commentary then.

I've bought a lot of boots because they were more reasonably priced, but I'm going to slow down since Celestial are releasing so much on iTunes.

And thanks for your interest in it.  Noticed that the font looks quite different than it did on KFC.  Too much spacing.  For those interested I also have all the commentaries listed on one post as well.

I do own all of the DVDs on that list (or at least one of each; not all of the multi-boxes though I have a few of them too.)  Missing a couple of BDs though.

I just wish there were upcoming Shaws for DVD/BD for North America.
