The "trilogy" from John Lo Mar that is Five Super Fighters, Monkey Kung Fu and Boxer From The Temple has some of the best Shaw shapes ever imo. My Rebellious Son with Fu Sheng has a lot of great and varied fights. Im sure you've seen the venom flicks.... oh, and check out Kung Fu Instructor with Ti Lung and Wang Yu, if you haven't... and Shaolin Intruders.

Thanks TWC, I really liked Five Super Fighters!! I didnt realize it was part of a trilogy. Yes Ive seen the Venoms, but never even heard of The Temple, Ill check that one out also. I came across The Avenging Eagle at FYE over the weekend, $5 NEW!! It was ok, far from the top of my list, itll be a while till I see that one again.

It's not a real trilogy, hence the quotations... But three SB kung fu comedies by Lo Mar made around the same time, with a lot of the same actors, and im probably the only one refering to it as such. Super Fighters is my fave, followed by Monkey KF with Boxer trailing in third.

When I first read this thread, I'd would be strugging to put together a Top Ten list. Now after re-reading everyone post's, and having watched a lot more of the Shaw Brothers back catalogue. I'm now unable to condense a list into just Ten of my favourites.

I want to contribute for this thread for years but I just cannot make up my mind :D I'll list the ones I watch most often because that's easier even if it does not necessarily mean I think those are the best ones. Here goes:

MAGIC BLADE

FIVE SHAOLIN MASTERS

SHAOLIN TEMPLE

BLACK TAVERN

COME DRINK WITH ME

AVENGING EAGLE

THE DUEL

KING EAGLE

FOUR RIDERS

DELIGHTFUL FOREST

KILLER CLANS

DISCIPLES OF SHAOLIN

36 CHAMBERS OF SHAOLIN

BRAVE ARCHER

CLANS OF INTRIGUE

There, gotta stop now I got already more than 10 😇 Yet I know I omitted some dear ones. Just can't do it, it's an impossible task.

Maybe because there are too many good movies...

Even atop 50 best  movies wouldn't be enough to mention all the movies we love, I guess...

Yeah.... with a gun to my head, a rope around my neck and doing the horse stance over a cactus.... I could probably, maybe, possibly boil it down to a top 25.... but it would be hard.

This is obviously impossible, even a top 50 is hard, but heres a list off the top of my head

1. 8 Diagram Pole Fighter

2. Avenging Eagle

3. Masked Avengers

4. Swordsman & Enchantress

5. Return of the Sentimental Swordsman

6. The Duel

7. The Assassin

8. Killer Constable

9. Gang Master

10. Delightful Forest

Seven years late, but my list would look similar to this. It's very difficult to narrow down my top 10 shaw brothers, since they have many good movies.

I noticed most users dont have anything older than 73 in their lists. Shame.

I grew up watching Shaws and I didn't even bother to make a top 10 list as for me it would be impossible.

But, but, but if I was force to do one then many would be before 1973.

1959: The Kingdom & The Beauty

1966: Come Drink With Me

1967: Rape of the Sword

1968: Golden Swallow

1969: Return of the One-Armed Swordsman

1970: Vengeance

1972: King Boxer

         14 Amazons

Intimate Confession of a Chinese Courtesan

        Delightful Forest

If I were to throw in post 1973 movies then it would be what are my favorite movies by year - and I would have to omit some titles.

1973:  Generation Gap

           Iron Bodyguard

          The Kiss of Death

          The House of 72 Tenants

1974: Heroes Two

         5 Shaolin Masters

         The Savage Five

         Friends

        Shaolin Martial Arts

1975:  Empress Dowager

           Disciples Of Shaolin

          The Flying Guillotine

          Lady of the Law

         The Super Inframan

1976:  Shaolin Temple

          New Shaolin Boxer

         Killer Clans

         The Magic Blade

         Big Bad Sis

1977: Chinatown Kid

         Jade Tiger

         The Naval Commandos

         The Mighty Peking Man

The Dream of the Red Chamber*  I am bias (see my signature pic :blush) this would be in my top ten if I was force to do a top 10.

1978: Vengeful Beauty

          Avenging Eagles

         Heroes of the East

        The 36th Chambers of Shaolin

1979: What Price Honesty

          5 Superfighters

          Deadly Breaking Sword

          The Proud Twins

1980:  Clan of the White Lotus

          Killer Constable

          Heroes Shed No Tears

           The Master (3 Evil Masters)

          Rendezvous With Death

1981:  My Young Auntie

           Martial Club

           Return of the Sentimental Swordsman

          Gang Master

1982:  My Rebellious Son

           Five Element Ninjas

Brothers from the Walled City (Nostalgia reasons)

            Hell Has No Boundary

1983:  Lady Assassin

           Bastard Swordsman

           Shaolin Intruder

          Men From The Gutter

1984: Police Pool of Blood

          Love In A Fallen City

New Tales of the Flying Fox

1985: Martial Arts of Shaolin

         Hong Kong Godfather

         Pursuit of a Killer

        The Master Strikes Back

Working on a top 5 Shaw film of every year 1965-1985. Still a few titles short on some years, and of course I would have to like them as well. One of those type of lists that is ever changing.... untill you've seen every SB flick of that period.

I have seen a whole heap of Shaws movies and as I revisit a film my opinion sometime would change, so it is like a revolving door.
