Milkyway, thanks. Looking forward to seeing it. I've seen the mixed reviews but it is meaningless to me. I'll judge it for myself after I see it.

Should be out within few months in France. No theatrical/DVD release in HK yet though.

Reviews are mixed, mostly negative I think, but I'm convinced it's going to be a great movie. Johnnie To barely disappoints these days.

Ebert liked it: http://blogs.suntimes.com/ebert/2009/05/for_even_now_already_is_it_in.html

but as I wrote elsewhere:

Ebert has never been that favorable of To with a negative review of Exiled which I believe is the only review he has done of a To directed film. Kind of strange to pick out "The Heroic Trio," "My Left Eye Sees Ghosts," "Running on Karma," which two of the three I have seen and is not typical of his work.

But looking forward to this film; I hope it hits at least one of our theaters in Modesto.

HK theatrical release is August 20th, so the HK dvd should be out by early October, probably sooner than the French one.

regarding the eventual HK dvd release, it's generally within 2 months after the theatrical release date that dvds are released in Hong Kong. Media Asia, who is distributing Vengeance, has had a very good track record these past several years, with major films such as Exiled, Confession of Pain, Triangle, The Warlords, and The Sniper all being released on dvd between 1 1/2 - 2 months after opening day in theaters. one thing I've noticed though, is that for non-HK films it seems to take longer for them to be released on dvd, and even some co-productions between HK and other countries, such as The Medallion which took about 4 months to reach dvd. seeing as how Vengeance is a co-production with France, how many think this may delay the HK dvd release for some time? I had been anticipating it to come out in early-to-mid October, until I remembered this possible problem. Judging by France's 6 month wait for dvds, it should be November when it comes out on dvd in France. I really hope that the HK dvd release will be in october, I can't waiiiiiiiiiiit to see this film!

now according to Moviexclusive, Vengeance has been pushed back till October in Singapore! I don't know if the Hong Kong release will be pushed back as well though, hopefully it will remain Aug. 20th.

ok, I heard from Moviexclusive that the Singapore release has been delayed due to dubbing issues, so likely the HK release should remain as Aug. 20th.

Hallyday, Testud to star in To's HK-French Vengeance

French actors Johnny Hallyday and Sylvie Testud have been cast in Johnnie To's upcoming thriller Vengeance which is being made as a co-production between France's ARP, To's Milkway Image and Hong Kong-based Media Asia Group.

Scripted by regular To collaborator Wai Ka-fai, the story follows a former assassin, now a French chef, who comes to Hong Kong to avenge his daughter whose family was murdered.

The cast also includes To favourites Anthony Wong, Lam Ka Tung, Lam Suet and Simon Yam.

"This is my first time ever in China. I'm very proud to be directed by a master such as Johnnie To," said Hallyday in a statement.

"As my first international film, I'm sure this collaboration will bring a new edge to my film-making," said To.

ARP last year acquired Hong Kong thiller Eye In The Sky, directed by Yau Nai Hoi and produced by To.

Vengeance has started shooting and is planned for a summer 2009 release.

"Vengeance" is going to be playing at very limited theaters here in Sydney, surely I will go and watch it.

I was planning another YesAsia order, and now seems a good reason to do it.

Thank you for posting about it.

Haliday is no actor but he has presence (I recommend watching him in Corbucci's Gli Specialisti)

I was lucky enough to see this on my trip to Paris this past summer.

Fun movie.

Thought it was very unique until my friend told me it borrowed a lot from Memento (which I don't plan on seeing anytime soon as I'm not a fan of Christopher Nolan).

Whatever it borrows/steals from Memento, this is a fun movie with some creative gunfights (Particularly the scene where their lugging these cubes of trash across a field to use as cover).

OK I got this movie yesterday and I really liked it. I thought the casting was great, as well as the storyline. The Action can be a little slow at times due to there searching for the Men who killed his Daughters family. But when it picks up it was great. The whole storyline was very original which was different from anything we've seen. Overall a must see movie!

Might have to put in an order for the Blu-Ray.
