Administrator KUNG FU BOB Posted November 25, 2008 Administrator Share Posted November 25, 2008 Even though I just read these recently (from my original DVD's copy), I re-read them again. Fascinating stuff!
Moderator Asmo Posted November 25, 2008 Moderator Share Posted November 25, 2008 Wasn't he Taiwanese? Could have just been born there. Curious though.
Guest Markgway
I was fairly sure John Liu was Taiwanese. I think Tan Tao-Liang was born in Korea and later moved to Taiwan where he taught Liu and became an actor. Hence Tan's films being Chinese rather than Korean (co-prods accepted)
Member Jesse Smooth Posted November 25, 2008 Member Share Posted November 25, 2008 I've always thought that it was kinda odd that Liu would learn from Tan (despite him being three years younger than Liu). I think Linn mentioned that he had learned Zen Kwan Do from his grandfather. Perhaps Tan only helped with his kicks???? :l

Guest Markgway
Tan is a Korean-born Chinese. I thought that might be the case. I didn't realise that Liu was younger than Tan.
Member Topgun Posted November 29, 2008 Member Share Posted November 29, 2008 Hey guys...check this out: According to IMDB's website, John Liu was born May 20, 1944 in Taiwan. On the other hand, according to www.hkcinemagic.com, it lists John Liu's birthday as January 1, 1944, having dual citizenships of South Korea and Taiwan. Could someone show us which of these guys is drunk? Many thanks Topgun:o
Member TibetanWhiteCrane Posted November 29, 2008 Member Share Posted November 29, 2008 On HKcinemagic, they just write 1/1 if they don't know the date, but only the year!
Member teako170 Posted November 29, 2008 Member Share Posted November 29, 2008 Appreciate you posting that G. Hadn't seen that before. Here's a scan from Cinemart #91 (July 1977) featuring that flick: Sorry, don't have the actual issue. This was a scan from an eBay auction. Wish I had picked up this issue as it had photos for -- The Golden Mask (Chi Kuan Chun flick I need to get)... Heroes Of Shaolin (titled here as "Hero of the Wild")... and The Damned (titled here as "Robber, Pros, and Money.") Geez, how many alts does this last film have?? I still like "Ho's, Thugs and Scrillah" myself - haha
Member falkor Posted November 29, 2008 Author Member Share Posted November 29, 2008 I think I have that issue... why you interested in those 3 movies? I recently got a widescreen subtitled version of Heroes Of Shaolin, but don't think I've posted it in the Rares topic yet.
