Member sbfan4life Posted November 8, 2008 Member Share Posted November 8, 2008 Awesome Collection falkor !!! The other day I helped my Mom & Dad clean out the garage . We found a couple boxes of my Grandfathers old Movie Magazines hidden away in the corner... My Grandfather was the one that got me hooked on Shaw Brothers Movies (mainly David Chiang Films) My Grandfather was born in 1898 and died at 101 years old ...This is what we found of the Cathay Collection ... Member falkor Posted November 8, 2008 Author Member Share Posted November 8, 2008 Oh wow, can I buy that 161 off you for $30 + shipping? Or I can give you 2 movies for it. I posted this once before, but for those who missed it, here's what a typical issue looks like:

Member Tosh Posted November 11, 2008 Member Share Posted November 11, 2008 Wow some sexy women there, I miss the old gaudy 70's style but glad it's past(bellbottoms aggh), I have a bunch of old National Geographics from the late 60's and 70's, I love the old adds of cars in them. Member dbtb Posted November 17, 2008 Member Share Posted November 17, 2008 Wow-nice collection you're putting together G. Thanks for sharing the scans (and Christine's too). Congrads on scoring another Ingrid cover issue. btw- what's the trick in scanning newsprint pages- I always lose resolution on the blk/white pictures. Member falkor Posted November 17, 2008 Author Member Share Posted November 17, 2008 Congrads on scoring another Ingrid cover issue. Thanks mate, I received it today thanks to Christine. Its got Ingrid Hu inside as well... btw- what's the trick in scanning newsprint pages- I always lose resolution on the blk/white pictures. The trick is probably not to scan in B&W, but colour! Also, use the highest resolution without slowing down your comp (300-600 dpi). If moire appears then re-scan with "Reduced moire" or "De-screen". Need to find out what scanner Christine has got; the above cover scan is glass, or is just because I'm Ingrid's biggest fan?
Member dbtb Posted November 17, 2008 Member Share Posted November 17, 2008 Thanks for the helpful tips. I'll play around within your guidelines and see what works when I have worthy images to share. You're right- Christine's came through pretty sharp-she knows what she's doing. Christine, hope you can share more images from your Grandpa's collection. Issue 102 has a nice Betty Loh Ti cover. Member falkor Posted November 17, 2008 Author Member Share Posted November 17, 2008 I wonder when International Screens ended? After Cathay closed the magazine continued to feature Yangtze produced films, such as The Crush and Action Taekwondo, for a few more years, but for how long exactly? I have scans from two 1973 issues and other collectors seem to have later issues only from 1973 as well, so maybe that was the final year of publication. Member dbtb Posted November 17, 2008 Member Share Posted November 17, 2008 I don't know myself but 1973 may be about right. I first started buying HK movie mags when Bruce Lee came on the scene which would be '72-'73 and remember Southern Screen, Cinemart, HK Movie News, and Golden Harvest mag but not International Screen. My reasoning was that once Golden Harvest went into full op, Cathay would've folded since GH took over their studio.
