Member chen lung Posted November 3, 2008 Member Share Posted November 3, 2008 Thanks. Nice classic-ish cover, but not very poetic. TBH, not really a smiling matter when we're gonna get an otherwise crap transfer .
Member Morgoth Bauglir Posted November 3, 2008 Member Share Posted November 3, 2008 I've never seen this, so I will probably pick it up. What are people's thoughts on this movie?
Member Killer Meteor Posted November 3, 2008 Member Share Posted November 3, 2008 I think its one of the very best Shaws. its not exactly dynamic but its very intelligent and poetic

Member greenfan Posted November 3, 2008 Member Share Posted November 3, 2008 Yeah, Magnificent Trio is a cracking movie. It's definitely worth a purchase.
Member Killer Meteor Posted November 3, 2008 Member Share Posted November 3, 2008 Sadly none of the DVDs are very good. UK is non-anamorphic, HK PAL-NTSC and interlaced, and knowing Image, this dvd will look even worse!
Member chen lung Posted November 3, 2008 Member Share Posted November 3, 2008 Looks like we need to rely on the French perhaps? Celestial should be fair to everyone. Sure, they run a business, but they're extremely anal and rather overestimate what they have.
Member Shaolin Patriot Posted November 3, 2008 Member Share Posted November 3, 2008 Based on the overview: This adventure reunited the director and cast of the groundbreaking "Tiger Boy", and established both as pioneers of the coming golden age of martial arts cinema. Taking place in the closing years of the Ming Dynasty, the title characters battle a power-hungry official, at the same time getting involved with three gorgeous beauties. Two magnificent trios plus great fight scenes make this one of the most memorable historical dramas to come out of Shaw Brothers in the 1960s. Is there a fair amount of action to keep one interested, or does the film tend to get preoccupied in romantic interests? I'd be looking for more of the former. Member venoms5 Posted November 3, 2008 Member Share Posted November 3, 2008 It's a good chivalrous swordsman movie although don't expect levels of violence from CC's works the following year. A remake of THREE OUTLAW SAMURAI (1964), there's beautiful sets, colorful costumes and good music. The early Shaw swordplay movies were unique and very different from the later blood & thunder flicks that would pour out of the studio over the next few years. Literally, thanks to Chang Cheh's decision to go the gore route.
