I just got finished watching it. I always thought I saw it back in the day in English but wasn't quite sure. Now this only confirms it. :D

Yeah, its nice Celestial finally started realizing the value of English language materials and put some effort into finding and cleaning it up.

So know what are the big missing ones? Brave Archer 4, but I think that exists as I knew someone who saw part of it, but what are some of the other biggies?

well i checked out the website and i must admit i'm pretty impressed. nothing like that where i live. so they don't tell you in advance which movies are dubbed in english. i notice some upcoming tittles such as BRAVE ARCHER #2 +3---also VALLEY OF THE FANGS--have these played before and were they dubbed ? i know BRAVE ARCHER #1 and OPIUM AND THE KUNG FU MASTER have been named as having dubs. as for Gfanikf's question as to which dubs are still missing--a lot--according to the LOC dubs exist for--THE CASINO--THE SEXY KILLER--FIST OF VENGEANCE--VALLEY OF THE FANGS--THE PIRATE--GOLDEN SWALLOW--QUEEN HUSTLER--14 AMAZONS--LOST SOULS(IMAGE?-maybe). others that usually make the lost dub list--ASSASSIN--SWORD OF SWORDS--FLYING DAGGER--VENGEANCE IS A GOLDEN BLADE--RAW COURAGE--HEADS FOR SALE--LADY HERMIT--KING EAGLE--BLOODY ESCAPE--DRAGON MISSLE--FULL MOON SCIMITAR--PROUD TWINS--TIGRESS OF SHAOLIN--MURDER PLOT--COWARD BASTARD--HEROES SHED NO TEARS--THE SENTIMENTAL SWORDSMAN SERIES--KID FROM KWANTUNG--HOLY FLAME OF THE MARTIAL WORLD--WHAT PRICE HONESTY--SECRET SERVICE OF THE IMPERIAL COURT--YOUNG VAGABOND--BLACK LIZARD--BIG BROTHER CHENG--PURSUIT OF A KILLER--WANDERING SWORDSMAN--also recently claims have made about dubbed versions for TRILOGY OF SWORDSMANSHIP and RENDEZVOUS WITH DEATH which i believe--and as we know flashlegs has recently found the dub of IRON BODYGUARD. so as you see there certainly is still the possibility of a lot of shaws still to be found--not to mention better and more complete versions of tittles that already exist--ie--DELIGHTFUL FOREST and DUEL FOR GOLD. and honestly there are others that i haven't mentioned---some of these will no doubt eventually show up from dragondynasty -media blasters etc. yes--i believe the hunt for lost dub shaws will continue for many more years. anyway one last question---how was the dub version of OPIUM AND THE KUNG FU MASTER ? the same crew that did HOUSE OF TRAPS and SUPER NINJAS.

i checked out the thread and all i can say is that i hope someone is putting the english dub versions on dvd-r s or something. i wish something like this was available here in canada. last year i had a HD PVR for awhile and never had any trouble putting movies or hockey fights onto dvd-r. i'm surprised that pan media hasn't got wind of this and tries selling them.

Ssshhh. Don't give dingus ideas, besides he wont do it himself, he's far too lazy to do anything himself.

The problem is that Cablevision DVRs ONLY record you cant extract them (without some hardcore tech knowledge). Now you could buy a TIVO HD DVR and it should do the trick. Now it wont be HD, but very HQ DVD. I would do it, but I just never have anytime, plus there is the chance the channel could be flagged, but Monsters HD was never apparently.

Bobo, as a consolation for you I can take some off air video clips with my camera and up it to youtube for you.

Get a stand alone DVD-R recorder. Then plug it in to your cablevison box. Playback your dvr'ed verion. Pause dvd-r for commercials, adverts, etc!!!

Finalize disc.

Wha laH! You now have recorded a movie that was stored on a dvr!

That's how you do it! :l

Jumper.

I've always preferred the original language track with subtitles. I can see where the english dub track would be preferable though. On my vhs copy of OKFM the subtitles are too far down and very hard to read.

Your cable company provides DVR boxes.

He already has a DVR box. He's looking for a DVD Recorder to transfer Opium off his DVR to dvd

Any DVD recorder would suffice. I have a hacked Cyberhome standard DVD player since the very first batch of Shaw releases and have had no problems out of it yet. So brand shouldn't matter.

I have a Sylvania DVD recorder I paid $80 for and have had it for two years and no problems with it, either. Wal Mart or Target has fairly cheap prices on these things and they carry easily hackable brands.

There are so many threads about this movie, but nothing about the film itself, so I thought I'd just use this one to make an observation.

First of all, I thought it was a great film. Not the best I've ever seen. But it had a lot of great elements in it. It was nice to see two of Shaw's most important male actors for the previous decade or so squaring off in the finale. It was almost fitting considering they helped build up Shaw's kung fu reputation in the early 70s, and then Opium would be one of the last kung fu films churned out by the Shaw Bros.

There was a bit of over-exaggerated fight choreography and cinematography, and by that, I mean the use of wires, obvious under-cranking, and quite a bit of body doubling for the more acrobatic moments. Otherwise, the fights were entertaining to watch, and you really were rooting for Ti Lung's character. Truly one of the last classic kung fu films to be made.

One thing I thought was interesting, wasn't the film itself, but the ending credit roll. I've seen so many Shaw Bros films, that was the first time I'd ever seen one with a full credit roll at the end! And even stranger, no 'Another Shaw Production' or whatever it is they write, at the very end as the image fades out. It was really strange. Why didn't the Shaw studio put their stamp on the finale? And was this the first and only time that they did a long credit roll at the end of a Shaw film?

I've seen a handful with credit rolls, can't remember which, late era ones though, sure Master Strikes Back is one of them. So far as the 'Another...' stamp goes, I get the feeling Celestial added/redid a few of those, like they redid some credit titles. They definitely redid the Shaw logos, I'm pretty sure Opium should have started with that glowing logo in space thing rather than the more readily recognised one; think most of the very late ones should.

Boxer From Shantung had an end credit roll - on the DVD anyway.
