Paying it forward is the way to go in 2013 with all these great kung fu movies made available.

The day thuglife released this on ADC, I posted on Facebook that it was available, and for any of those not into the whole "downloading" thing wanted a copy, for them to PM me their mailing info, and I would gladly mail them a copy, and I had sent out over a dozen copies already, US residents only. Cost was only 65 cents to mail each disc, I did not ask for anything in return, not even postage or disc cost.

This trend will continue, as long as I am able to do it. :)

Let us all enjoy the Fu together. Any of my Shaolin brothers or sisters need help in obtaining a movie, please let me know.

Buddha Bless You.

That's peace right there..Amituofo.

I got through watching this one last night, and all I can say is 'Wow'! Even as someone who's only been into the kung-fu movie scene for 14 years, which is still a relatively short period of time compared to a lot of people on here, I often find myself in the rather jaded mindset of thinking I've seen all the best stuff that's out there. Thankfully, movies like this sometimes pop up to remind me that there are still gems waiting to be uncovered. Hats off to Kung Fu Bob for hooking me up with a copy.

'Shanghai 13' essentially plays out like one of those threads which question who would win out of Bruce Lee, Jet Li, Jackie Chan, Donnie Yen etc etc., except in this case the topic would be 'Which Generation of Chang Cheh's Kung-Fu Clan Would Win in a Fight?' Of course, these threads are usually wishful thinking, and have no chance of ever actually hapening, except in this case, because 'Shanghai 13' does just that in a real, fully watchable, feature length fight fest!

From the opening with Jimmy Wang Yu cracking a safe, not even a single fist had been thrown and I was already smiling. An hour in, and Leung Kar Yan had smashed through a living room full of attackers before taking on Lu Feng, Chi Kuan Chun had ripped through a casino before throwing down against David Chiang, and there are almost countless other highlights to enjoy.

For a kung-fu fan there's not a whole lot to dislike about 'Shanghai 13', you have every generation of the Chang Cheh roster present and accounted for by at least one person from each group - from Jimmy Wang Yu, to the Iron Triangle, to the Shaolin Cycle, to the Venoms, and even the Baby Venoms, even Andy Lau is thrown in there for good measure. Wrapped up in a story that is exactly how 'Bodyguards & Assassins' should have played out, for those that like their kung-fu non-stop and unfiltered, 'Shanghai 13' is a slice of excellence well worth seeking out.

Agreed, seeing Shanghai 13 for the first time is pretty mindblowing. This was one of the movies I had back when I didn't have many movies and I would watch it almost daily.

I can't remember who said this line, it might have been Linn, but it was something like "Joseph Kuo made kung fu movies for kung fu movie fans". While I 100% agree, I think Shanghai 13 is the movie that best fits this description.

Yes, yes, yes! That's exactly what I think of Shanghai 13, a kung fu movie made for kung fu movie fans. I'm sure Chang Cheh was thinking along those lines when he made it. I always felt this movie was done to pay tribute to the many stars he worked with over the years and for the fans, especially as the popularity of kung fu movies was on the decline in the early 80's. One last hurrah...
