I almost wet my pants a few days ago when I saw this, the posters are finally going up for Tony Ja's Ong Bak 2. If you haven't seen the trailer already then let me tell you it looks like a Muay Thai feast packed with weapons and much coolness. It won't be as good as part one of course, but after waiting for so long it is set for a 4th December opening here. Those who want OB2 posters form an orderly queue, I will try to get some soon ;)

Looks great. I can't wait for this movie. I hope it does well internationally to help erase some of the recent controversy for Tony Jaa. He may not be the most shrewd director but he is a bona fide phenomenon and deserves more recognition.

I don't know, if the trailer is any indicator I think this will be his best movie yet, hopefully everyone will forget all the drama and give this movie a chance.

Ong-Bak 2 Synopsis

Phra Sihadecho and Nang Plai who always paid royalty to the King and the homeland were murdered by the viciously power-craving tyrant, Phraya Rachasena, before the eyes of their one and only son, Tien. The boy ran away with a heart full of deep vengeance swearing to take revenge on the tyrant. Until Tien met Churnung, the Head Theif of Phaa-Peek-Kroot Gang, who adopted Tien and taught him lots of martial arts such as boxing, sword, magic, explosive, weapon, incantation, and especially thief training. Until the day comes when all of the skill runs through his veins, Tien is ready to reclaim vengeance on his one and only enemy. Unfortunately, things don’t go quite as planned, Tien is tortured almost to death but he is miraculously saved by Kruu Bua, a Khon Dance master who Tien lived with when he was young. Kruu Bua teaches him how to control his body, to know the power of meditation within human soul, and to absorb Dhamma riddles lying within Khon Dance which is a noble performance art with an origin before 16th Buddhist Century. Eventually, Tien discovers something that makes him feel like he is born again, meanwhile he discovers a form of martial art combining with ancient Khon. The result is a new style of fighting that is both elegant and powerful, and that no one has ever seen before.

The new looks (Info by Deknang)

Ong Bak 2 has at least one thing related to the First ong Bak. This movie is the origin of the Buddha statue which the head was stolen and our hero had to run around to find it. Jaa Character will also change significant from Original Ong Bak and Tom Yum Goong. Instead of a calm quiet simple and humble country man like the first two films. This time his character is trained to kill and will always have the killer look in his eyes filled with revenge, Brutal and savage. The type of "No one can and No one will stop me" look in the eyes with one goal in life "To Kill he one who killed his family".

Tony Jaa’s New Looks in Ong Bak 2

November 1st – We audience are going to witness remarkable change of Tony Jaa’s warrior looks in the gigantic action movie of 2008 ‘Ong Bak 2’. His new looks from head to toes will be totally different from his old ones in ‘Ong Bak 1’ and ‘Tom-Yum-Goong’. This is because Ong Bak 2 is a period movie depicting the origin story of ‘Ong Bak’ the scar-faced Buddha sculpture.

Tony Jaa : “In every set of Ong Bak 2 there is a change of my look such as costume design, hair style, and my character. Each time it takes at least 2 hours for me to wear costumes and make-ups, so I have to wake up early to arrive at filming location on 5 A.M. and to have them finished by 7-8 A.M. The color tones of every part of my body including fingernails, teeth, and long hair will be particularly set in encrusted black tones which is suitable for being an ancient warrior. This is because my cast is a warrior who is talented in martial arts and capable of using several weapons, so he must look tough and strong. Moreover, my dark skin is made up even darker because it is considered not dark enough. There are a lot of things happened with this cast of mine, so there are changes in costumes to suit each situation in the story.”

But what still remains is the good quality of Tony Jaa’s styles of action, and it is even better!. ‘Ong Bak 2’ will be screened in Thai cinemas on this December 4th.

The possibility of Ong Bak 3

(Around this time, this should be considered just a rumour.) It is told that there is a report from an insider who reveals that now there is preparation for the filming and storyline of Ong Bak 3 as the sequel of Ong Bak 2 quietly. Kongdej Jaturanrasamee from ‘Queens of Langkasuka’ is to take the duty of screenwriter.

The Set of Khmer Palace which is already seen by the press is now fortified for its further usage. It will not be considered worthwhile if it is removed. Moreover, there is now a list of Ong Bak 3 casts including the name of Dan Chupong and Nui Kessarin who will be in the same set with Tony Jaa.

Please keep waiting for further updates and confirmation about this project, the reporter adds.

Hope that Ong Bak 3 rumour is at least a tiny bit on the mark. It would be amazing to have Dan Chupong and Tony in the same film.

Interesting to know that the Buddha from Ong Bak is going to be in this movie and gives it a good reason for it to be called Ong Bak 2. I think the first one was a great entertaining movie, simple story - great fighting, like a throwback to the old school movies, and imo Jaa wasn't as horrible acting in it as people say.

TYG on the otherhand was a editing mess, there might have been a good movie in there, we'll never know now.

When will we see a proper trailer for this?

Guest Yi-Long

Tony's acting isnt all that bad, considering he's still pretty new at this, and he's an stuntman/action-star first, actor 2nd. He has charisma, and that kind of innocent everyday-guy kinda look.

Ong-Bak was a great action movie, and a nice movie.

TYG was an amazing action movie, and a piss-poor movie.

I hope Ong-bak 2 will be able to deliver both as an action flick, as well as a movie. I dont really worry about the action being great, cause Tony has already shown to be an extremely ambitious guy who puts quality first (action), and quick money second. He seems intent to show us original, new stuff.

As a movie though, I have my doubts it will be good. I sure hope it will be, but the trailer hasnt REALLY impressed or interested me yet, which is probably also because of the setting and story.

We'll just have to wait and see. I expect great action, and a so-so movie.

I really hope this gets a wide release like The Protector did. I remember being at the movie theater all day watching The Protector over and over again:D
