Okay, I just found this.

http://www.superherohype.com/news/articles/112353-michel-gondry-upset-by-comic-con-audience

I understand his view regarding fanboys ("fascists" seems a harsh term though). But now I'm wondering.......will I be one of the normal or abnormal people?

Very interesting, those fanboys are far beyond normal... What about people like us, are we fanboys, geeks, film buffs, what??? I love movies, kung fu, horror, sci-fi, anything with a good story but I also respect the artist who created it.. I don't dress up in funny costume unless it's freaking Halloween or a party.. I never been to Comic-con, would love to go sometime but there's also one near my town and they're not that crazy, lol..

That's awesome and Gondry is one hundred percent correct. If anything, he could have gone further with it.

Also, this trailer was attached to TRON LEGACY. I'd seen it before - but not in 3D. The post converted 3D seems to be very well done this time, looking better than I honestly thought possible and leaps and bounds beyond the terrible/incompetent PIRANHA 3D or ALICE IN WONDERLAND conversion jobs. It looked better than a lot of TRON LEGACY's 3D, and that was actually shot in 3D. I'm not talking about the 2D scenes in TRON LEGACY, the actual 3D scenes weren't handled particularly interestingly most of the time.

The buzz train just can't be stop, here is another enthusiastic view on the movie, WOW!!!!

#9- The Green Hornet: Now, I can’t really get into too much of this film, because full reviews are under embargo until next month. What I can tell you is that this was the first of two films that I saw at this event that I considered to have HORRIBLE trailers! I remember watching the first trailer a few months ago, and cringing. What was this garbage? It appeared to be a mix of loud music, quick cuts, and comedy that looked to be stretching a bit too far for a weak punch line. Then, I saw that it was set to be released in January, and I considered that to be the final nail in the coffin. I guess I never heard that you are not supposed to judge a book by its cover, because this movie… well… it will blow you away. The action is over the top and fun. The humor is spot on. Rogan kills it in this role. Kato has never been this extreme. Christoph Waltz… I mean… geez!!! Most famous for his portrayal of Hans Landa in Inglorious Bastards, he continues his hot streak here. I won’t spoil anything, but this guy manages to pull off the role of the most appreciative and attentive villain in film history. To give you an idea of what I mean, I will provide this little comparison. If Waltz’s character in this film was a Bond villain, Bond would tell him to cut out the monologue in the future. Waltz would then contemplate this, thank Bond for the advice, shoot Bond in the face, and you’d better believe me… the next super spy he captured would NOT hear a monologue. He would be dead before there was a chance. I just… I want to go on and on about this film, but I can’t. Just please… do not dismiss this one yet. It may surprise you. I know it surprised me.

I still don’t understand why or how this seemed to engender such a negative buzz around it.

Was it because Chow Sing Chi bailed/was dismissed?

Or was it because “Seth Rogen can’t play a hero, he’s fat”?

I spoke to someone recently who’s seen this and, although not allowed to go into it too much, he told me it’s fantastic.

As a GH fan I’m very happy it’s getting very positive reviews and proving the haters wrong.

Also, if you wondered what Kevin Smith’s proposed GH film would’ve been like, he adapated his unproduced script into a 10 issue run on the new GH comic.

It’s now out in 2 separate hardback collections from Dynamite Comics and comes highly recommended.

I'll be honest with you guys........I have less of a problem with Seth Rogen in the GH role than I do with Jay Chou reprising Kato. Another non-MA pop-star making another action movie. That just irks the crap out of me.

But..........I thought Rain did a good job in Ninja Assassin so..........I'll see what happens with Chou.

This is who should've been Kato:

There has never been a better candidate.

P.S. it has nothing to do with looking like Lee or anything; it has everything to do with charisma, Martial prowess, and strength of individual playing the part. Wu Jing would own it!

The reason I wasn't excited about this:

1: The Green Hornet. I never really cared about it. Not even as a kid and not even as a fan of Bruce Lee. So a movie about the Green Hornet? Meh.

2: Jay Chou. I know he's a big fan of martial arts, but I've never really found him convincing as a martial artist, nor as an actor. So when we heard he was going to portray the role of Kato, I just went meh.

3: Seth Rogen. I haven't seen much from him, apart from some clips and interviews, so I didn't really know what to expect from a dude who thinks porn and weed jokes are the pinnacle of comedy.

4: The fact the Stephen Chow walked away from the project. Chow was the most exciting prospect of this movie, and he walked... so I think most of us assumed it was gonna be shite.

5: The trailer. It did very little for me.

So yeah, all the positive reports that are coming out right now are quite surprising. I hope the actual movie will hold up. I remember posting something very slightly negative about the movie-trailer in the comments under the YT-clip, and it was very quickly deleted, so that kinda makes you wonder...

He would've been great to see in this role. He has great martial skills. He can play innocent and naive. He can do stone-faced psycho killer. He's just made some bummer movie choices. (I personally love FATAL CONTACT.)

To tell the truth, I'd prefer any martially trained Asian in this role. Doesn't jhave to be Chinese. Tony Jaa, Dan Chupong, or Kane Kosugi would do for me. Shoot....as far as I'm concerned I think Stephen Fung (HOUSE OF FURY -- I was very impressed) and Nicholas Tse (NEW POLICE STORY/DRAGON TIGER GATE) -- same) have paid their dues and proven that though they didn't have any initial training starting out, after a few years and a few movies, they've learned a lot about choreography and how to sell a fight. I could see them playing Kato.

I do know that one of Chou's stunt doubles is Andy Cheng. If Kato does any complicated kicking, I'm guessing it could be Cheng since he has a TKD background.

Plus about Nicholas Tse, he got so involved from all of his stunt training with Nicky Li, then doing Wing Chun for the series of the same name, that he is still studying the style. He started under Sifu Guy Lai (for the series), but I think he is now training with Philip Ng in Wing Chun. Saw a video of Tse and Andy On in training with Ng.

Does Wu Jing speak English well enough?

The guy they chose looks skilled, his side kick in the trailer looked textbook, they just seem to be obscuring him with special effects, MTV-style editing and camera tricks, no doubt because Hollywood feels it has to with Rogen.

I'd like to see the dude get more work in better movies.

If you went to see Tron in 3d the trailer for Green Hornet was in 3d and makes the movie look better or did for me anyhow. I was wondering about that kick and the effects for Kato in the internet trailer, but now see it was for the 3d.

I say then let Cheng do it all. Sorry, I said I'd keep an open mind. I'm trying. (It's not working, obviously, but still....I'm trying.)

I saw that clip of Tse and On training, too. Looked like some good stuff. I know on another thread very recently (but I can't remember exactly where) it was pointed out that Tse had made a remark that came across as a little obnoxious along the lines that learning MA and/or doing fights was easy and no big deal. I don't know if that was ego talking or the fact that he's apparently become comfortable with it.

I've actually talked one time with Tse. We're both members of AliveNotDead.com (a social network created by Hong Kong actors/musicians Daniel Wu, Terence Yin, Andrew Lin, and Conroy Chan) and he surprised everyone by appearing in the chat box and he totally had no ego whatsoever. I think he said what he said because he's done it for so long he feels more comfortable with learning various martial arts, even for films.

It would've been great if Chow Sing Chi had stayed onboard (which probably would've resulted in a markedly different film altogether), but I like what I've seen of Jay Chou - he has a kind of "slacker" vibe to him.

Just saw a free screening last night and my reaction was, it was better than I though it was going to be... Mainly due to the two leads, Seth Rogen and Jay Chou... They made Kato a freaking bad ass in this movie and Seth's character stayed true to his character that he always play, which is a moronic buffoon asshole and it works really well... He's not trying to be something that he isn't capable of playing which made it genuine...

This movie has more car chases and shoot-outs then it does hand to hand combat fighting...

In the T.V show it was all about the fights which I was kind of let down by this movie because that was the best thing I like about the Green Hornet Tv show...

Definitely, the comedy aspect of the movie help this from become a mediocre shitfest.. So yeah this is a good popcorn movie and the 3D wasn't all that impressive, it really didn't matter much...

Jay chou has a very bright future in Hollywood, get ready to see him in more movies in America!!!

OpiumKungFuCracker: How were the fight scenes? From the preview they had that slo-motion Matrix look to them, which I don't like! It worked good in the Matrix but enough already.

The ones you see in the trailer were the only ones that were in slo- motion that I can remember.. All the other fights scenes were close ups and fast edits just like the ones in 'The Expendables.'
