Administrator KUNG FU BOB Posted October 10, 2008 Administrator Share Posted October 10, 2008 When you say letterboxed, you mean its non-anamorphic? Please tell us... I ordered it anyway- as soon as I read it was letterboxed, that's good enough. But seriously Tai Seng- what's the problem? At this point, every DVD should really have an anamorphic release. Member Delirious Posted July 14, 2010 Member Share Posted July 14, 2010 Let's bring back this old thread, I finally had the chance to open the newer Tai Seng version. Here's the in-depth analysis: Tai Seng version(new) vs. Jumbo Plain Video version(old) Good: -superior image: grain, brightness and sharpness. Most noticable during the endfight in the jungle. -3 different soundtracks: dubbed, cantonese, mandarin (all stereo) -removable subtitles, 3 of them -cheaper in price -better looking case art-work -better menu Bad: so many wrongs, being released in the year of 2008 -False advertisement: letterbox, not anamorphic, the runtime is 89 minutes, not 86 as listed -DVD-5. -Visible interlaced combing when watching on LCD TV -Ghosting all over the place -Speed-up: 5 minutes short comparing to the Jumbo Plain version -Color spectrums: WTF!! during the end fight, the sky changed color in the rainbow manner from left to right. --> at this point I came to the conclusion that Taiseng took their source from a PAL print and too lazy to do a proper conversion to NTSC. Hence the letterbox, interlaced combing. Worse of all is the missing frames resulted in speed-up, the end result the movie was shrunk down by a good 5 minutes. Cropping: Tai Seng version is wider on the side, but crop out from the bottom. Conclusion: From the scale of 1 to 5 for the dvd; the old Jumbo Plain deserves a 2, and Taiseng receives a 2.5 for their piss poor job. This is qualified as exploitation from Taiseng. Go F*** yourself Taiseng. I also created an picture album with side-by-side comparison of the 2 version.
