Member falkor Posted July 14, 2008 Member Share Posted July 14, 2008 The purpose of this topic is to provide information on various versions of HK/martial arts films that are in circulation. I'll be posting updates whenever I've checked a half decent sized batch of films (atleast 50) and capped some screenshots. The screencaps are taken randomly, so as not to give a biased representation of a print. For subtitled films I make sure that the subs are always turned on when capping, so you can see what they look like etc. http://www.rarekungfumovies.com => Browse Catalogue => Latest Additions => Newest Titles/Versions This link is needed for seeing a complete set movies with screenshots capped thus far: http://www.rarekungfumovies.com => Browse Catalogue => List Titles With Screenshots 2098 18 Secrets Of Kung Fu Widescreen 2099 18 Secrets Of Kung Fu Fullscreen 2092 36 Sword Guards Widescreen 2091 7-Man Army Widescreen 2108 A Brotherhood Of Heroes Fullscreen 2134 Badai Laut Selatan - Episode: Patung Wisnu Kencana Fullscreen 1103 Bare-Footed Kid Widescreen 565 Big Rascal Fullscreen Use second link 2111 Bionic Ninja Fullscreen 2116 Bisikan Arwah Fullscreen 2103 Black Panther Widescreen 2104 Black Panther Fullscreen 2120 Blind Boxer Widescreen 2125 Blood Brothers Fullscreen 2114 Blood Warriors Fullscreen 2113 Bodyguards Cryptic Crystal Fullscreen 2119 Book And Sword Fullscreen 2121 Born A Ninja Fullscreen 2118 Born To Fight Fullscreen 2105 Boxer Rebellion Widescreen 2106 Brave Archer 2 Widescreen 1668 Breakout From Oppression Fullscreen 2128 Breakout From Oppression Widescreen 2110 Bruce Lee And I Widescreen 2124 Bruce The Super Hero Fullscreen 500 Buddha Assassinator Widescreen Use second link 2112 Budo Wing Fullscreen 2117 Bukit Berdarah Widescreen 2131 Burning Of The Red Lotus Monastery Widescreen 2109 Burning Paradise Widescreen 2090 Five Tough Guys Widescreen 2122 Ma Su Chen Fullscreen 2102 Seven Men Of Kung Fu Fullscreen 2096 Swordsman in the Royal Court Widescreen 2089 The 14 Amazons Widescreen 2100 The 36 Crazy Fists Fullscreen 2101 The 36th Chamber Of Shaolin Widescreen 2087 The 8 Diagram Pole Fighter Widescreen 2126 The Big Family Fullscreen 2127 The Big Family Fullscreen 2130 The Black Society Fullscreen 2123 The Bodyguard Fullscreen 2129 The Boxers Fullscreen 2084 The Five Venoms Widescreen 2097 The Spy In The Palace Fullscreen Will fix for next update 2107 The Stranger And The Gunfighter Widescreen 2086 The Twelve Gold Medallions Widescreen 2094 The Two Tigers Fullscreen 2093 Three Kingdoms: Resurrection of the Dragon Widescreen 2085 Two Champions Of Shaolin Widescreen 2088 Two Champions Of Shaolin Widescreen 2095 Two Wondrous Tigers Widescreen Spanish! Member Yakuza954 Posted July 14, 2008 Member Share Posted July 14, 2008 How is it spam when the post is informative, includes screen shots and is pertinent to the fans of this board? God knows we need more sites that have rare movies.. If you're not interested, then just stay out of the thread.
Member AlbertV Posted July 14, 2008 Member Share Posted July 14, 2008 Not to mention that falkor is the man when it comes to the exceptionally rare??? He isn't spamming at all. He's done a great job of showcasing some of everyone's favorite talents in films we never knew existed. I agree with Yakuza954, we need more rare film site...maybe a rare movie archive eventually of sorts, like a huge database.

I wish the morality police knew something about rare films. Oh wait, they don't. That's why they always post the same **** over & over & over... Member falkor Posted July 14, 2008 Author Member Share Posted July 14, 2008 Thanks for the comments, guys! Your feedback helps motivate me to research ever more films--coupled with my ambition to try and beat my record on the number of movies I can cap in a single day. However, full concentration and accuracy is most important. Damn, I'm so lazy though... I only have about 3000 films to get through, yet I'm checking, say, 50 each time, so why am I still on the Bs? Let's see how many I can research tomorrow! BTW, if you guys have any films that you would like to get an idea of the quality or format then I can always prioritise which films I cap, as long as it doesn't start with the letters C,D,S, or T, okay? About 90% of films needing their pictures taken are listed on the News section of the RareKFM site. Feel free to make any requests. That way, you can make it even more interesting for us. Member AlbertV Posted July 14, 2008 Member Share Posted July 14, 2008 Can I have a R, S, T ,L "and a vowel" E Just kidding falkor...just that the way you sounded, it sounded like you were Pat Sajak on Wheel of Fortune LOL
Member falkor Posted July 14, 2008 Author Member Share Posted July 14, 2008 Haha! If you want me to check Cheeky Chap then that's a no no right now, but then I'll be hitting the Cs straight after the Bs anyway, although I've still got some As to finish tomorrow. If you wanted to see Duel In The Desert - Korean then that's a no no too, as is Shaolin Drunk Fighter in Korean, but then if you really wanted to see Yo-kwon Gwoi-kwon--no problem! These are bad examples though, since there are already Youtube clips. Anyway, I hope I've made myself clear! All vowels are allowed.

Member falkor Posted July 16, 2008 Author Member Share Posted July 16, 2008 In my experience most lost or rare movies got lost for a reason. what ultra-rares can you reccomend? I know what you are getting at...and your hypothesis can be disproven quite easily. Sword Of Justice, Massacre Survivor, From The Highway are all rare classics to name a few. Shaw Brothers classics like Magic Blade were once rare, too, but thanks to official releases are now available in superior remastered form. Likewise, it's thanks to Rarescope for hunting down the 35mm reels that we have Cotton Mill. There is absolutely no pattern between rares and entertainment value. Some are classics; some are mediocre. It's the same with films that are commercially available. Therefore, you cannot ignore rares if you are a kung fu fan, or find an excuse to explain why you never bothered collecting them in the past. The real reason movies get lost is because big companies generally make no effort with preserving kung fu films. Mainstream fans and academics alike are a bit like sheep who like to follow society's rules, sticking to official releases only, and playing the waiting game for rares to be discovered by other people and given a nationwide distribution. Such close-minded individuals are depriving themselves of quality entertainment in the short term for the sake of their pride/ego (or whatever goes on in their crazy heads). Some rares may never get a release in our lifetime, so if available through collectors and specialist websites, I say go for it: start trading and collecting today! Member Killer Meteor Posted July 17, 2008 Member Share Posted July 17, 2008 Likewise, it's thanks to Rarescope for hunting down the 35mm reels that we have Cotton Mill. And who do we have to thank for the DVD being an over filtered mess? It looks like an old video copy submitted to a ton of ludicrous compression, edge enhancement and noice reduction. Same with Along Came The Tiger
Guest Markgway
The problem with rares is that there's too much hype. I was disappointed with the medicore Showdown at Cotton Mill. But advance word was that it was a classic. I'd love to see remasters of From the Highway, etc... but realise there's a fair chance they might be a let down. Best not to have high expectations methinks.
Member falkor Posted July 17, 2008 Author Member Share Posted July 17, 2008 KillerM, Cotton and Along were in below average condition before release. Along Come The Tiger was very poor condition....if only you knew about the original film negative you would be grateful; haven't got time to go into the story right now. Mark, I think your opinions are the exception when it comes to Cotton Mill, and I don't think you will find anyone who will agree with you regarding that particular movie. I must admit I have had trouble over the years trying to analyse your taste buds. I seem to live a life of confusion, so I've given up trying to analyse people now. Its a mediocre imitation of a mediocre Chang Cheh Shaolin film. Why it was hyped is beyond me! its not like there's a shortage of weak Chi Kuan Chun as Hu Huei Chien movies I don't mind poor prints. But Showdown and Tiger had so many video problems (and I'm not talking about print dammage, skipped frames, etc..)

I thought it was a good movie but not a classic and didn't live up to the hype that was generated before it's release...BUT...I am very glad that Rarescope put this one out for us all to view and own. I found it to be a good overall movie, but mainly good for the action. There's a fight with Chang Chi Ping and the hand to hand left me breathless. Some very intricate hand to hand choreography in this movie. And I love the first major fight with Shan Mao. he throws some really hard looking punches at the beginning of the fight. They let you know right away that hardcore fans of choreography are going to want to pay attention closely.
