Member CrazyFrog Posted July 8, 2008 Member Share Posted July 8, 2008 Man, that news about Leterrier re-doing Clash of the Titans really sucks. That movie was a great testament to the old school special f/x work of Ray Harryhausen. I mean, it could have been better in some ways but.... dammit, every goddamn movie from 1967 on is being re-done. Deathrace 2000, Dirty Harry, whatevers. Just the sheer paucity of mainstream filmmakers imaginations staggers the mind. Honestly, the general public could benefit with not being assaulted by hundreds of movies every year, with a majority of those remakes, sequels, or derived from some other source of media. I love movies, don't get me wrong, and there are some gems in any crap pile but the only reason Hollywood hasn't sunk any lower is because they can't do porn versions of popular titles at the local cineplex. If they could that's all we'd ever see. And to that guy who said Aliens was a "way better" than Alien, well, they're completely different movies and only comparable in just three things: they share the same lead, the have the alien, and it's in space. Otherwise, apples and oranges. I don't even bother looking at them as related films. just had to get that off my chest, thanks.

Member tdb Posted October 28, 2009 Member Share Posted October 28, 2009 I think you'll find almost every movie in that list's namesakes are all at least 20 years old. The FF movie isn't a remake as much as a franchise reboot. The Host is a foreign remake so it doesn't count as Hollywood feeding off its own entrails. Though they are coming thick and heavy, 20 years or more probably does make a property fair game for a remake. We are due for another Blob remake (the '88 version was pretty good). In spite of the average studio executive's best efforts we'll still see plenty of original material amongst all the cc.
Member HyperDrive Posted October 28, 2009 Member Share Posted October 28, 2009 A live-action version of Heavy Metal might be cool. Everything else is better left alone. There's no way anybody can portray the phenomenon known as Shonuff in The Last Dragon or the Hanson Brothers in Slapshot like they were. In other news, they're remaking the Ten Commandments 300-style.... http://www.firstshowing.net/2009/10/12/fox-takes-on-the-epic-300-like-retelling-of-the-life-of-moses/ . Jackson as Shonuff is going to make The Last Dragon interesting. They've lined up some pretty good directors for the Heavy Metal stories. They're supposed to be new animated stories like the original. David Fincher, Zack Snyder, are some names I've heard are definitely listed as involved. Member AlbertV Posted October 28, 2009 Member Share Posted October 28, 2009 Tron: Legacy is actually a sequel with Jeff Bridges returning in a more smaller cameo as Tron while a host of new actors take over. You did forget A Nightmare on Elm Street...that's coming out in 2010 as is Kung Fu Kid, which is a re-make of sorts to The Karate Kid. I have to admit, I'm curious about Samuel L. Jackson as Sho'Nuff. I'm sure the late Julius Carry will be seeing this from up above. Taimak, the original Last Dragon himself is also scheduled to be in the film in a small role (and he's been inducted into the Martial Arts Hall of Fame). Well, if Hollywood is unable to remake their own films, they turn to Asia. The Departed (Infernal Affairs), The Grudge (Ju-On), Pulse (Kairo), One Missed Call, Mirrors (Into the Mirror), My Sassy Girl, amongst others. Member daisho2004 Posted October 28, 2009 Author Member Share Posted October 28, 2009 Some movies I can see maybe doing a remake of, but others should be left alone period! Member zeus Posted October 29, 2009 Member Share Posted October 29, 2009 i think paul verhoeven movies should be left alone...(robocop and total recall)..and even highlander should not be redone...sequel maybe but not remake....but i am looking forward to red sonja and conan(finaly)...what they need to do is make movies of some realy great fantasy books out there or comic books and not do 1000 remakes of the same movie(punisher) pick the actor and give him the character alas hugh jackman wolverine...thats it for now... Member AlbertV Posted October 29, 2009 Member Share Posted October 29, 2009 Funny you mentioned that because I just heard a few days ago, a big screen Doc Savage film is in development. There was a cheesy 1970's TV movie that starred Ron Ely as Doc Savage.

Member daisho2004 Posted January 23, 2011 Author Member Share Posted January 23, 2011 OK I wanted to revisit this subject again, since we have a few movies coming out soon that are remakes of classic movies such as the Mechanic. What do you Guys think of this topic? I did watch again last night the remake of Clash of the Titans it was best on average, could've been so much better really cannot touch the original. Now if you decide to do a remake why does it have to be a carbon copy of the original movie like True Grit almost identical to the original movie, Psycho is another I only watch the last 20 minutes of it but it didn't need a remake IMO! I never saw the original Mechanic but the remake looks bloody awful. If they do a remake of Hard Times I'm going to fight people. The Clash of the Titans remake looks horrendous. I can't be bothered to watch this ever. What last 20 minutes of Psycho do you watch? The remake or original? Remakes in general have made this the lowest point in films ever. Member daisho2004 Posted January 31, 2011 Author Member Share Posted January 31, 2011 make believe: If you have seen the original The Clash of the Titans then you'd be disappointed with this movie. But if you go into it with an open mind you'll enjoy it more, I watched it on Cable a few times already it does get better as you watch it, the 1st. time you'll most likely hate it. As far as Psycho goes it was the remake that I seen the last 20 minutes of, loved the original, cannot even touch that one. Did you see the upcoming remakes that I listed? And The Mechanic the original is a classic, I'm hoping that this remake is totally different, besides the fact he is a Hitman.
