Member teako170 Posted April 23, 2008 Member Share Posted April 23, 2008 A very unusual rom-com to say the least. Sure many have heard of... Sleepless in Seattle. You've Got Mail. However, this first teaming up of Hanks & Ryan is not often seen. Hanks has even stated he doesn't care to acknowledge the film. One thing for sure, its no chick flick -- as is its "sequels." Hard to say if JVTV is a "cult classic." A box office flop that's now approaching 20 years. It has a dedicated fan site since 1998 and even its own newsgroup (alt.movies.joe-vs-volcano) for many moons (pun) - even though the NG is now a spam market. One of my faves. Wondering if anyone else enjoys this flick? E6m1qgnUw74
Member TibetanWhiteCrane Posted April 23, 2008 Member Share Posted April 23, 2008 Didn't hate it, but didn't love it either! It is very different, you can't take that away from it. Liked Hanks character. Not a fan of MR though. Tom Hanks' THE BURBS however, is my favourite comedy of all time. I liked Hanks in the 80's. Not so much in the 90's and on. Member vonhumboldtfleisher Posted April 23, 2008 Member Share Posted April 23, 2008 I have a slightly guilty fondness for this film. I haven't seen it in about nine years, and I still say "I have no response to that" from time to time.
Member Chinatown Kid Posted April 24, 2008 Member Share Posted April 24, 2008 My favorite Tom Hanks films would probably be Big and Bachelor Party, also liked Saving Private Ryan. Never have seen Joe Versus The volcano but I heard it sucked.

For your penance CKid, you must sit down and watch the ultimate Tom Hanks flick. Any guesses as to what THAT might be?? Oh - btw, all those wav files were indeed from the film. Member teako170 Posted April 26, 2008 Author Member Share Posted April 26, 2008 The Burbs? ...entertaining. Forrest? ...exceptional. But Joe...? Enlightening! Of course, Hanks "finest" role predates all these films....

Member Morgoth Bauglir Posted May 1, 2008 Member Share Posted May 1, 2008 A League of Their Own would be my favorite performance from Tom Hanks. Also liked The Money Pit. Haven't seen Joe vs Volcano. It sounds like a decent kung fu flick I guess. I'm intrigued by this volcano character.
