Shanghai Lil & the Sun Luck Kid (Shaws?)

What about FLIGHT MAN? Was it a co-pro as well?

Doesn't appear to be. (At least no record of it). I think Shaws gave money to Taiwanese producers to shoot bashers on the cheap. They made quick money that could then be ploughed into the more prestigious HK-studio set productions. Some of these films (ie. Flight Man) weren't even released in HK. I hate to say it: but Linn knew more abut this than me. :(

Wow. Chin Han really must have had a thing going with SB in Taiwan - I had no idea CRAZY NUTS OF KUNG FU was a Shaw's production. It really doesn't look like one.

Yeah, there were quite a few Shaw films shot in Taiwan. Mostly they look like indies due to the differing conditions. If you take away the studio sets and costumes...

I forgot Shih Szu was still making SB movies up until the late seventies, too.

I love her. :)

Anyone wondering what the fuss is all about can now check out the entire film on Youtube. Here's part one:

I'm not going to post all the movie in here directly as it'll eat up the whole page, so here are the links to the rest of it:

Actually that's a great idea, VHF: posting rares on Youtube (even if it's for a limited time). I've obviously just watched THE CHAMPION but I'm sure many fans will get a kick (ahem) out of this.

Been a while... so bumping this to see if anyone has any new info or images?

Would dearly love to see a Chinese language poster.

I'm now quite confident that THE CHAMPION is a Shaw-Taiwanese co-production.

Question is: Which company co-produced it?

One of the producers, YEN Wu-Tung, ran Fortuna Films (HK).

As they were based in Taiwan it could have been them... but finding evidence for or against is (currently) nigh impossible.

fareastflix.com has it on DVD. If you search that website for Shanghai Lil, rather than the whole title, it will show up in the results.

i'm pretty sure you can find a copy of this from most of the regular online bootleg outlets. i believe that fareastflix and flashlegs both sell it-- but don't expect celestial quality. i'm actually surprised that pan media never got hold of this one---surprise, surprise. :nerd:

Does anyone know what label the Australian VHS came out on? There is a little thumbnail on Google image search that links to this thread, but I can only make out "Office Video" Looks like there might be more to the name like "50 ft" or something like that. As you can imagine, a search for "Office Video" VHS Australia on google comes up with everything but what I'm looking for.

Even better if someone could repost the VHS cover scan. Thanks.

Here's a thumbnail of the Australian VHS scan that was posted earlier in this thread. Too small to see the label name clearly, and a larger image of the front.

One of my favorites as little teenager. I was big on kicking so the first scene where Chin Han stomps his foot into the walls was real cool!

okay got final info on the upcoming German Blu for this called "Karate King"

3 Versions, (for basic watching Fun, i do recommend Celestial Main Version, there is really nothing important missing)

- Main Celestial HD Version (German & Mandarin Audio, German & English Subtitles)

- Reconstructed Version, based on Celestial plus German VHS Version Inserts ((German & Mandarin Audio, German & English Subtitles)

- German Cinema Edit based on Celestial HD Version (German Audio only)

enough for everyone. Shi Szu has one great single Fight Scene against Evil JP Henchgirl. and also fights hardly in the final Fight. (and has 2 smaller Fights before. Fights more than the Hero it seems!)...   Great Fun, finally in a watchable Print!

Gallery, Trailers included as usual.

actually it's not really a Framecut Massacre, but short Pieces of some Scenes. and some Shots are slowed down to hide print Damage. and the Mandarin Audio is as raw as ever heard from Celestial. also of Note, the German Print for the VHS was already looking totally beat up, making it even more of a Wonder what Celestial could achieve with this Movie.   yeah and most of the Celestia Print Fights have no Frame Cuts at all!
