Because it's something different to watch, it gets boring and dull watching the same type of movies all the time. Some people might think their too good or above watching these gory or trashy movies and that's certainly their right not to. Alot of people like horror/thriller type movies and adults know what they are seeing is fake. Of course these type of movies should not be seen by minors and they should not have access to them.

That's a good answer, Chinatown Kid.

I still don't think I'll ever get anything out of watching movies like that though. Guess I'll have to get sick of everything else first. :)

If the actual movie is good, then I can understand it, but if it is just for getting the gore out, I just don't see the point.

Different opinions I guess.

Could someone please tell me what there is to like about disturbingly gory flicks? I was having this discussion with a friend and fellow movie appreciater, and we just couldn't find any arguments for watching these kinds of movies. Anyone? Please don't say "art". :P

I guess watching a disturbing movie is really no different than all of society when they drive by an accident site. Everybody wants to see what has happened or get a look at the aftermath. This also goes back to the Grand Guinol theater in France where people paid to see death on a much grander and often times gorier scale than this. Not to mention these acts were performed right in front of the audience on a stage. Shakespeare's plays are jam packed with all manner of cruel acts of violence so I guess you could aim this question at those who are followers of the Bard's work.

Watching movies with acts of violence are often a release from the pressures of everyday life. However, some movies display vicious scenes in a disturbing fashion without showing a great deal and then you have those films that showcase disgusting acts simply for exploitation value alone. Movies like this offer a fascination for curiosity seekers, much like what I mentioned above of society's propensity for seeing tragedies in the real world. Only when a person has seen one of these movies, they tell their friends, "Wow, you'll never believe what I saw at the movies!" Thus, the attraction for bizarre and malicious ONSCREEN brutality is born.

And then there's some people who just don't care to see movies like this but I'll bet if something horrible or sensational happened to someone they knew or in the news, they would be curious to learn all the details.

So are you saying the people that enjoyed this movie are sick or heartless?

You have to wonder... the film doesn't even make any pretense of being appropriately judged. It's just pure exploitation of true crimes.

Is it clear to the movie watcher that this movie is based on a true story?

I think perhaps it is.

btw, never seen this movie. Not too big in the gore-ish films. But i dont mind seeing somebody stabbed by a sword!

Trust me, this ain't Chu Yuan!

Don't remember any child pornography in this.

It's when The Police show Lam the evidence they've found (he got caught after sending his sick photos for processing - which is actually true).

I find it difficult to classify these as "good" movies especially something like RED TO KILL which features rape of mentally handicapped young girls as well as suicide of a mother and her child and self bodily mutilation of said mentally handicapped female. I find that far more disgusting than a scene of policemen tossing a severed breast around in a scene meant to lighten the tone for a film that was made in HK and generally made for a HK audience who see and do things differently than we do.

1. Red to Kill is ficticious. That makes a big difference.

2. The treatment of the rapes are serious and without that sick black humour that normally pervades these films.

And wasn't DR. LAMB cut as well? I seem to remember the film is missing a bit of footage.

Yeah, the corpse cutting was trimmed a bit (but still almost unwatchable)

I still don't see the child porn your refering to Mark, I played back the scene where the cops show Yam the pictures and it looks like pictures of adult women he has murdered. Are you saying I'm mistaking the people in those photos as adults? I had no idea if it is that it was kids in that photo, that should be against the law if so.:(

They're both the same release. The discotek dvd is not uncut. The cut gore footage is accessed through the extras menu. For whatever reason, they didn't re-insert it back into the movie.

The universe version is not even anamorphic widescreen and lacks special features. I still consider the discotek uncut and by far the best version to get. It doesn't bother me that I have to access the special features for the deleted scenes. Why would someone want the universe version when their can have the discotek?

I would definitely recommend Run and Kill. The best version to get is the remastered uncut French edition. A buddy of mines even added custom eng subs. Let me know if you're interested in a copy.

I don't have the film anymore. Watched it then got rid. But I noted at the time the photo images Yam was shown were of a child's vagina (don't the cops actually state this - that Yam has abused his young niece?) If I'm wrong I'd love to know... but sadly I don't think I am. :(

Yes the cops do charge Yam with abusing his niece but I didn't see a pic of a child's vagina as it must have been cut out of my version if that's so or I just didn't realize thats what I was looking at. I'm sure glad if it was cut, that's certainly something I don't wanna see.
