Member Tosh Posted April 6, 2008 Member Share Posted April 6, 2008 Being a fan of these movies I've always looked into the history of events and period changes that these movies take place to get a better understanding of the films themselves, though most of the Jidai Geki movies are about the fall of the Tokugawa Shogunate into the Meiji restoration there are many that goes back further, here's a good timeline for reference - http://www.jref.com/culture/japanese_history_timeline.shtml
Member vengeanceofhumanlanterns Posted April 12, 2008 Member Share Posted April 12, 2008 As much as i appreciate the historical descriptions of these films I get so caught up with the acting, storyline, and visual glimpse into japan's past I completely forget to investigate further. I read the inlays but my retention isn't all there.
Member Tosh Posted April 12, 2008 Author Member Share Posted April 12, 2008 Ha, yeah believe me I have add, it takes me a couple days to read something that long, but I never knew that Shinobi No Mono takes place in the Azuchi-Momoyama period, the events would of took place before, and set up the Tokugawa Shogunate with the eventual assassination of Nobunaga. I'd like to check out more later period Jidai Gekis.
