Lee Hai Sheng

I wouldn't say overrated since he never really gets mentioned by kf fans that much (not that i know of anyway) but yeah, i always wondered why he got cast in so many high quality kung fu movies, he wasn't bad but he was so ....average.

Um... Is there any other Lee Hai Sheng besides Lee Hoi San or do we quite dramatically differ in our definitions of "average" (my meaning being "Lee Hoi San rocks")?

I'm a big Lee Hoi San fan too. Love him in Goose Boxer and Shaolin Intruders, and many other movies. Good actor, good kung fu.

I'm surprised about "Uncle Wang" in Chinese Hercules , he was in good shape for his age ;)

Yeah, Wang Chung-hsin from Fist of Fury and Way of the Dragon

Lee Hoi might have done his swingy arms style a lot but you check him out in magnificent butcher his handwork was superb and he did some good weapons in gold hunters as well, what i cant understand he is a real wing chun expert but did no wing chun in warriors 2/prodigal son

what begining to a topic is this? Seriously, HJL non trained? WTF? What is he, like 9th dan taekwondo I think? And I read he wasn´t even higher for taekwondo feds inside politics? Damn he was maybe the toughest guy FOR REAL in the movie bussiness back then...
Actually he said KUNG FU trained...not that he wasn't trained at all...

Bruce Lee and Hwang Jang Lee overated? Hell no!!! If you can't see their apparent Martial Arts skill and charisma onscreen then I just don't understand, but everyone's got their own tastes and preferences so can't say my opinion is any better than you guys...

If your talking Kung Fu/Martial Arts skills overated and not acting then I would think more along the lines of people like David Chiang, Lo Lieh, Jimmy Wang Yu, Chen Sing, and Wong Yue. Those dude's techiniques never impressed me that much.

Save for Chen Sing I agree. Keep in mind that a lot of the people seeing BL nowdays are not used to the old styles of filming. While I'm not sure if I'd say BL is overrated, I will offer that too many people are star struck by him.

HJL is one of my favs. Guy can jump with the best of em, and his kicks are unbelievable! Most people have to have their feet planted in a certain way to kick right, but Hwang just seems like he can do any kick at any time. And he's super fast with so much power. I'm amazed every time I see him kick. I will stop now before it sounds like I have a hard on for Hwang:p
Exactly. He doesn't telegraph jump kicks. He's a great bad guy!

fu sheng is overrated. the other mentioned stars grew up studying the art. and performed in movies.

fu sheng was an actor who took some classes, like Keanu Reeves did for the Matrix, and acted in some KF movies.

and he is EXTREMELY overrated. the other guys, at least, were the real deal.

I think Jimmy Wang Yu is overrated. Yeah, he was an Olympic swimmer and yes, he learned martial arts for films, but compared to Bruce Lee, Hwang Jang-Lee, and yes Fu Sheng, I just wasn't too impressed with Jimmy Wang Yu.

Another is Danny Lee, with the exception of his role in Super Inframan. I saw him as Bruce Lee in Bruce Lee and I as well as The Eight Escorts and at that time, he didn't look too great. I'm glad I like him for his roles as a cop and the robber in City on Fire, but it is his roles as a hard boiled cop that impress me more when it comes to him.

I'd go with Fu Sheng, not to diss him but I hear soooo much about how was going to be the next Jackie Chan, he was so popular, so famous...

jimmy wang is not overrated. you don't see posts and video tributes and tons of newspaper articles on him. that's what being overrated is. all over the media and in documentaries and in trading circles.

see in that respect fu sheng was over hyped more than he was actually good.

yeah but then to certain people, hearing ANYTHING about them is making them overrated, depending on that person's dislike for said actor/martial artist.

i was never a david chiang fan. he's always had a rather large following, mostly in part to his cheng che films and his collaborations with ti lung (whom i prefer over chiang). he is just too lanky to be any convincing. however, it wasn't until he gained a few pounds in his older films that i found him to be any good. The Loot is a kick ass film!

and Cheng Sing? if anything i feel he is underrated. while not the best kicker, the man is versed in karate and silat in real life, and i believe teaches in canada. I will say that as a kid, i never really cared for his movies, but as i got older i found them to be very entertaining (i was very happy to see him in iron fisted monk as a good guy for once)

Bruce lee of course.samo hung too and Jackie Chan is way too overrated also. While jackie got popularity in USA he always dreamed of,his movies have been long time been boring.

I would pick dragon fist, spiritual kungfu etc... anytime over another police story(new police story was awesome though and jackie should concentrate on flicks like this instead of another boring action comedy) or rush hour movie.

Jet Li I do not think is overrated. While I do not rank him among top of the mountain, shaolin temples and once upon a time in chinas(1&2) are great movies. And so are some of his usa efforts.

Which Bruce film would you pick after those 1000 flicks?

I wouldn't.

IMO, I don't particularly like David Chiang. In any of the movies I've seen him in, his moves just look too rehersed. I've never bought him as a real fighter. :ooh:

venoms have always been a favorite of mine but since watching thousands of movies it has become real hard to watch some of their films. i'm not saying they are bad they are great but judging from the films themselves there is not much charisma there. fighting is not enough to carry a film IMHO
