Re-subtitling "The Return of the 18 Bronzemen"

Ive taken upon the chores of re-subtitling 18 Bronzemen 2. The translation in the Mei ah

release is very rough. The story is at a loss because of the translation. The story seems

somewhat jumbled. Ill give you an Example. When for instance a Monk comes in giving

praise to Buddha "Buddha be Praised'' the translation is litterally ''Am mi to fo''. Horrible.

That Eng Dub is no flying kite itself. Sometimes in the english Dub i noticed it's even

worse than the Subtitles in the Mei Ah version of the film. While im no litterary scholar,

im still left not without some thoughtfull confidence. Ive read around 150 or so books

for the last 15 years or so. So i know and realize plenty about the writing process. how

it opens and closes, enfolds etc, when it's best to open close on, what to close with, what

to start with etc.. For the last 3 years i had taken a particular interest in reading many

many classics such as works from Shakespeare, JRR Tolkien, Homer's the Iliad and the

Odyssey. Also many films of these somewhat classical sorts i could not help but shine to.

Im sure my efforts will not be anything like shakespeare but i hope to bring the dramatic

aspects and litteral depth to the words when they are spoken as much as i can without

actually departing from that script. In the end i would like to see more cohesion and

supremental elevation of plots and happenings through-out the movie. In the end (after

paying attention from start to finish) i trust already that when i am done the story will be

more tragic and have more whip to it than ever. The story is actually a magnificent one.

In the past it has reminded me of the Ultimate ''Game or Tower of death type movie''.

This time there are many levels again but this time they take place in a Litteral labyrinth

of Chambers. Through a maze of tests and trials a man defeated all his "demons" (in

the form the 18 bronzemen where the Obstacle) and became a Dragon.

Historically the Dragon was the symbol of the Emperor of China. The embodiment, a living

force of auspicious power. I always think of Bruce Lee when i see Return of the 18 Bronzemen

because Carter Huang reminds me of the embodiment of ''the Dragon" in the film. It almost

remind me of ''Alice in wonderland'' simply because of the surrealist approach to the traps,

oversized sets, golden bronzemen. Bruce Lee was in real life the only real once - living

breathing person i ever consider a real dragon. He not only actually played a dragon on film

he played who he really was. Who he really was shone through.

The things he (CW&BL) goes through is a wonder world, a test of mans ability to stand up

and fight and become ''Dragonesque'' that obtainable, seeminly elusive side to a man that

seems to alude us. But really it is all ''just as in the movie ''all smoke, tricks and mirrors"

The Dragon you see was always there and had already been there and face the Ultimate tests

and won. He only had to bring upon him the realization for the ''manifestation'' of where

he really wanted to be came into his sight. You see my freind you only really need to see

yourself past the illusions (now) to see who and where you really are. Your not trying to

become a dragon no no, you must realize you are already that great warrior. So, Fight the

good fight.

the English dub of the film and my own ingenuity. I am spending more time studying what i

should write than i thought i would but thats the way it should be.

Nah i wont be Re-subtitling 18 Bronzemen (1). 2 is the one that deserves the focus. That movie is

sparkling, a veritable treasure trove of the sorts of things we love to see in Kung fu films. They

were very rarely included and when they are not quite like this.

Coward bastard, thanks this is for everyone. If you give me any feedback. Of course it's appreciated.

Please re-frain soley from telling me what you dont like. I rather (if you think you have a better suggestion)

to couple your criticism with ''how or what you would change". I want it (quite humbly) to be the best (for

everyone) not just me. If there are too many examples for you to count to let me know then perhaps this

version is not for you. I may not take your suggestion and use it but if i deem it "good" enough it will most

surely be included in that final draft.

I will say i am taking a lot of time out to research what will bring this movie word-wise to be more climactic

than ever. Everything through the movie start to finish is being payed special attention to. I cannot for ex:

write one line if in the end it does not compliment in some way the others. It's very tedious but at least i

have the mind to work these sorts of things out.

The only thing that i can think of that limits me is that i cannot go far from the original script at all. There

is not that much to work with. Thankfully there is more than 100 ways to say one thing though. I have

confidence it will be grand.
