Hey,

I just got done with Soul Of The Sword (great movie, BTW) & it occured to me that this has to be the gazillionth movie I've seen with Ku Feng in it. He's gotta be one of Shaw Bros. most prolific actors. I mean, this dude is in everything! And he's a fine actor to boot - what else can you say about a guy who's played everything role under the sun. Ku Feng, I salute you! I think he's still acting today! Some personal favorites are Bat Without Wings, Black Magic, the one where he plays Ti Lung's hunchbacked brother. Feel free to add on & show this dude some love.

peace

Yeah, Ku Feng is a cool cat. He's played villains in so many different movies, kind of like, say, Christopher Lee. Both Chang Cheh and Chor Yuen seemed to like to use him a lot, too.

Though Chan Shen was the guy who was in everything and worked for everybody (though I don't think he worked for Chang much).

Ku Feng was one of Shaw's best actors IMO and could really express alot of emotion in his eyes, looking forward to when Celestial releases the remastered print of Master of Kung Fu where Ku plays none other than Wong Fei Hung. Besides the countless great Shaw roles he played like the evil clan leader in Avenging Eagle I also liked him as Bruce Li's boozing teacher in Eternal Film's Dynamo.

A brilliant actor, his performance in 'Secret Service of the Imperial Court' is superb.

Just recently he had a small role in 'Rob-B-Hood' playing Jackie's dad. Needless to say he packed a whole lot of emotion into his short amount of screen time.

That was the part of Brother Wu in Li Han-Hsiang's TIGER KILLER which is a remake of The Amorous Lotus Pan and a prequel to The Delightful Forest, The Water Margin and All Men Are Brothers in that order.

What's more, there is a documentary on Li Han-Hsiang on several of his DVDs (notably Tiger Killer) that includes interview clips with Ku Feng as he is today where he discusses working with him [Li] on that particular film. (Ti Lung is interviewed here as well.)

Ku Feng was so good in that role he won the 19th Golden Horse Award in 1982.

Ku Feng is indeed one of the Shaw's best actors of all time, yet highly underrated. He has played heroic knights, insidious traitors, treacherous villains, sleazy businessmen, clan/gang leaders, goofy sidekicks, secret agents, escorts, waiters, innkeepers, bankers, doctors, murder victims, you name it, Ku Feng played it!

He was also a teacher at the Shaw's Performing Arts Training Course.

I feel this versatile actor should receive a celebrated lifetime achievement award for the impressive variety of characters portrayed in his body of work!

I have nothing but respect for the man, definitely one of shaws best actors, he could really hold his own in the fight scenes to. He was just amazing in Tiger Killer.

I don't know if Tiger Killer was a remake of the earlier Amorous Lotus Pan (?, in so far as how similarly treated - still need to see that one), so much as another adaptation from the literary source, Outlaws Of The Marsh. Also worth mentioning is Li Han Hsiang's earlier take on the same drawn tale of Pan Jinlian, "Golden Lotus" which has somewhat of a different outcome to Tiger Killer for sure, which makes me wonder how loose and free they were with the original literary sources; pretty much so I guess depending on the flick motivation. I'd love to get hold of a copy of the text. I've got a copy of the same story adapted featuring Kwan Tak Hing from the '50s... been holding off it due to it being raw, but should speed it in to the player I guess - it's a wonderful tale.

Ku Feng was astounding in TK, the empathy between him and Ti Lung alongside Wang Ping's awesome showing just wholly blows me away... Man, I'd love to say it's a Ku Feng definitive, but he's too prolific and quality to pin down to such... my favourite for sure; really felt his characterisation... Avenging Eagle's the sh't though!

The closest character actor I can think of to his talents (so far as drawing me in in the same manner goes) is Lee Kwan (who shone in the Chien Lung flicks), but that guy was more comedic, lacking the gravitas for a martial villain... Ku Feng could do it all from comedy to high-level serious to kung, etc., etc., etc.. The man really is it!

Spotted this up on youtube the other day... Can't get enough of this stuff. Ku Feng's too class.

I'm sure you won't mind sitting through the Tsui Siu Keung to get to Ku's brief showing; might be doubled but the man still shines even with this brevity - Cheers Manozen...

It's great to see so many on this forum appreciate this guy for what he is.

Hands down Ku Feng is my favorite Shaws actor. In Killer Constables he did some fine acting as well. Considered a little soppy for some, but they miss the point IMO, the man is very worried for his blind daughter's -the only thing in his life that matters to him - future. Anytime I see a new Shaws release with Ku Feng in it it's a definite purchase. Ku Feng is one of the kings in the Shaw Brothers realm. The man always gave 110% in his performances.

He's extremely cool in Have Sword Will Travel, Avenging Eagle, The Heroic Ones, Bat Without Wings, Vengeance, Soul Of The Sword, Black Butterfly, Master Of Kung Fu, The Brave Archer, Bells Of Death, Shaolin Intruders, you name it. Any flick Ku Feng graces with his presence (we're talking a commanding presence here) always brings the movie up a few notches.

I agree, Killer constable may have been his best work. The guy has no equal, expect maybe Lo Lieh.

Yep, just want to join in the praise. A lot of shaw actors, like Fu Sheng, Ti Lung, Gordon Liu, and David Chiang, kind of made a career out of "playing themselves" in a lot of movies. And a lot of great western actors did the same: John Wayne, Jimmy Stewart, and Errol Flynn come to mind. But it seems with Ku Feng, EVERY role was different. I can't think of any other actor who could reinvent himself so drastically from film to film. From comic relief in Killers Five, to sadistic villain in Bells of Death, to noble revolutionary in Anonymous Heroes, to weaselly gangster in Vengeance, to kindly elder sword master in Soul of the Sword---it's like he never played the same role twice.

Much props to Ku Feng, a man of many faces. From emperor to sidekick to treacherous villain, no one at SB carries the ranges of this fine actor. I admit I haven't seen every performance of his but the truly standout role of his IMO has to be as the vile emperor in Flying Guillotine II. I rank it just above his part as the evil clan ruler in Avenging Eagle. One day, I hope to see Tiger Killer someday; from what I'm hearing he's very good in that also.

Even when he has just a short role such as in Kiss and kill, it's impossible to miss his performances. Ku Feng is really a great actor.
