One of the more interesting directors to come out of Hong Kong, no doubt. He's directed everything from kung fu (A DEADLY SECRET) to romance (MELODY OF LOVE) to ultra-gory anti-Japanese propaganda (MEN BEHIND THE SUN and BLACK SUN) to hardcore pornography (TRILOGY OF LUST). His perverse body of work feels more akin to that of Gualtiero Jacopetti and Franco Prosperi than to the likes of Chang Cheh, Lau Kar Leung and King Hu.

The thing is, though, information on the man, aside from some interviews I've read with him (including a highly informative German one I put through Babelfish), seems super hard to find. Anyone have a more informative bio on the man?

I don't think Mo Tuen Fei directed Trilogy of Love did he?

Wasn't it Julie Lee? At least I'm sure she was credited.

Thanks. It's been a while since I saw it (and have little intention of doing so again).

Yeah, same film.

I'm sure the print I saw was called Trilogy of Love.

It was the censored HK version though.

Maybe it was called 'Lust' elsewhere?

Some interesting notes on Mou's early career in Taiwan can be found in an newspaper article that was reprinted in the appendix of Jay Leyda's "Dianying". Seems like his first features were more in a neo-realist vein (no exploitation at all). They were financed by Taipeh military circles, which is quite amazing, considering the pro-PRC stance of his later work (already evident in stuff like LOST SOULS).

Are you sure about him co-directing TRILOGY OF LUST? Is there any evidence of this? I can hardly imagine him doing this cheapo sexploiter...

the article is from 1971, and it says Mou was 29 back then.

so he should be in his mid-60s by now...

great work! very nice documentary, thank you very much for sharing it here.

too sad we won't see BANK BUSTERS any time soon. it's a shame that celestial didn't get around remastering it, as it sounds like a complete blueprint for LONG ARM OF THE LAW, which, in itself, is one of the best hk actioners ever!

btw, seems like the plot of Mou's "The Gun" segment of THE TEENAGER'S NIGHTMARE could very well be inspired by an italian 1966 avantgarde movie called A MOSCA CIECA (http://www.filmscoop.it/film_al_cinema/amoscacieca.asp), which, in turn, was the feature debute of another maverick director and soon-to-be sleazemonger - Romano Scavolini of NIGHTMARES IN A DAMAGED BRAIN notority. (Given the fact that Mou was touring Europe in the early seventies and Scavolini had really been a hot commodity in underground circles a few years earlier, it is not THAT far-fetched...)

did you ask Mou about TRILOGY OF LUST? (I noticed it is mentioned in the documentary, but there are no comments by the man himself.) I still can't believe he worked on this thing...
