Did any of you fine people watch this? Came highly recommended from one of my close friends who called it "one of the best movies" she's ever watched.

FAN MADE trailer BTW.

It must be ten or more years that I watched it and I don't remember loving it that much, I'm more of a Love & Pop guy. Me and my friend were quite influenced by L&P (not to mention End of Evangelion!) and used it for inspiration on our last two shorts.

But it's Anno so it's pretty much a must watch.

Yes, it's fantastic (though it's been probably 15 years since last watched it).

And yes, I'm also more of a Love and Pop guy.

@Super NinjaHave you seen the Love & Pop promotional music video filmed in Okinawa / Miyakojima? Which I think is kinda genius because the music video shows what happens after the movie. Also, I accidentally visited almost every location of the video. Only realized it afterwards,

No, don't even know about that. Do you have a link where I could watch it?

I've got it on my Japanese DVD release. Well, one of them. I'm such a fan I own two different Japanese DVD releases of this!

Oh wait, found it on YouTube:

This is the Okinawa / Miyakojima trip that they are trying to make money for in the movie, and that is only referred to as a future event in the film. Kinda very clever way to fuse art and commercialism. Also creates a great contrast to the movie that takes place entirely in urban Tokyo setting.

Footage was also featured in several teasers

So this was in 2016, and despite being a fan of the film, I didn't know the music video had been shot in Miaykojima. I only realized afterwards when I was looking at my photos that I had accidentally visited the exact same locations.

It's Sunayama beach! My photo:

Wifey. Maehama Beach.

Love & Pop. See the tower? (no, not you, Sigmund Freud :laugh)

This photo is FROM the tower. I think the girls were walking the road on the left. It's East Henna Cape.

Thanks! I'll watch this in peace when I return from work.

This is amazing, thanks for sharing the photos.

My best friend is in Japan right now, he's visiting Tokyo, Kyoto and Osaka, unfortunately I couldn't afford going with him this time. I'll have to add visiting these locations to my itinerary for my next visit, especially Sunayama beach.

It's a lovely small beach (I much prefer these kind of hidden small places to the big and crowded beaches). But you can visit all of those locations easily. Miyakojima is a very small island near the Okinawa main island (30 min flight from Naha). I was there for less than a day and managed to visit all those locations and more by rental car.

May I also suggest Yakushima (an island near Kyushu main island) for your next trip. The forests / hiking trails there inspired Princess Mononoke.

Inspired Princess Mononoke? Say no more, that's bucket list stuff. Judging by your photos, that forest looks magical, it's my type of place. I'm gonna write that all down, thanks for the suggestion.

I usually prefer hidden places with less people but in Asia I love crowds and crowded spaces. I'd probably have to travel to Japan once per year for as long as I live to get to explore everything.

This is a beautiful video and an incredible companion piece/epilogue to the original movie, the more I think about it the more I feel that way. Slightly different vibe, as you said it's a contrast to the urban Tokyo setting of the movie, but the feeling is the same, made me wanna rewatch L&P, it's about time for a rewatch anyway. I've shared this with the friend I mentioned, he was thrilled. Thanks again for sharing this @Takuma.

@Takuma Thank you for sharing all those wonderful photos and insight with us! It's really appreciated. Time to put L&P on my watch list as well.
