Member AlbertV Posted June 4 Member Share Posted June 4 Paul Giamatti has signed on to star in a TV-series new take on Eli Roth's 2006 film Hostel. Roth will be serving as executive producer, which will be a more "elevated thriller" which looks to mean it will rely less on gore and elevate the terror aspect of the franchise. https://www.darkhorizons.com/paul-giamatti-to-lead-hostel-series/
Member PandaPawPaw Posted June 5 Member Share Posted June 5 Is the torture porn genre still a thing/popular? Personally I went off that genre a looooooong time ago. I wasn't a fan of the Hostel movies.

Torture porn seemingly died when the Hostel movies started feeling tired and derivative of one aother. i'm not sure anyone wants that type of stuff these days. I certainly don't. With that said, they could flesh out the concept of the films and make a really good, dark tv series. I can see it being something special if they nail it properly. Which is why I think the series will go a different route and not focus on the torture aspect visually but make it more implied.

I'd like to see them go both routes: extreme violence but with a mature, intelligent plot.
