Poor Things (2023) - Emma Stone, Willem Dafoe, Mark Ruffalo

I've made a promise to myself after watching 'The Killing of a Sacred Deer' I will never ever watch another movie made by Yorgos Lanthimos.

That's why I was really struggling to sit down for 120+ minutes to watch another of his artistic farts!

But who the hell am I to judge and hey at least Emma Stone does get a good and very explicit pounding more than once during the entirety of the film so let's go.

Trying to keep this as short as possible I've actually enjoyed this one quite a lot and no @PandaPawPaw not just for the aforementioned, although I was like "God damn..." more than once!

I'd go as far as saying 'Poor Things' redeemed Yorgos Lanthimos for me. It's a visual feast from start to finish with outstanding sets and practical effects! As goes for the director's history of film making it always border on the insane, bizarre, abusive and exploitative.

Kudos to Stone for going all in... literally. It takes balls or in this case a clit to deliver such a performance. Although I'm pretty sure she might have gone a bit too much "r...tard" for the academy.

The rest of the cast all give outstanding performances as well. Ruffalo had me laughing hard more than a couple of times.

I'd love for all the feminists or self-proclaimed ones to watch this movie and tell me that THIS is not the better version of everything 'Barbie' tried to be but couldn't for obvious reason.

If anything my only gripe is that it's just a tad too long other than that if you want to watch a true piece of female empowerment watch 'Poor Things'.

Within the first 10 mins and I hear "what a pretty retard"..................then I see Stone playing with the penis of a corpse then stabbing it with a scalpel going Squish! Squish! Later on she finds the pleasure of her.................money box and there's no device called Stephen insight.

30 mins in and it's rather odd but strangely watchable though I can see the running time being a killer at the pace it's going..........................

EDIT: OK Stone's getting her money box full of coinage!! :o:D

Hmmmm so I didn't love it but I also didn't hate it. I loved the dialogue and the way they talked. Stuff like:

"Did you furious jump him?!
"No, he just fast-licked my clitoris"
"I had the heat that needed release so at my request it was."

:D

Stone was great and so was pretty much everyone else. I enjoyed the small dance scene on the ship and the characters were mostly good. I wasn't keen on the whore house stuff. It felt quite sad and seedy and probably smelt like ass. Also there was far too much sex! I hate sex scenes in movies. They add nothing. If I want to see sex, I'll watch porn. It became tedious.

I found Ruffalo pretty funny and Defoe was good too. I wasn't too keen on Ramy Youssef as I'm so used to seeing him in the show Ramy that I couldn't take to his character. I did like what happened to the General and turning him into a goat-esque human. :P

The running time wasn't too bad but it could do with a trim like Stones bush. A lot of the sex could of been cut out and although I get why there was so much, it just got boring.

Nicely filmed too and I liked the changes in lenses and all that.

Stone I don't dislike you any more. You're back in my good books.

One of the best films of 2023, in my opinion. Layered as hell. It has a LOT to say.

It’s a spellbinding world and the characters that occupy it are incredible. Fantastical in all the right ways. I love how it invests in the cruelty and joy of illumination. Of being human. This is a special film.

It may be a controversial opinion but I think Stone deserved the Oscar. A hundred percent. The internet's aflame with people saying Lily Gladstone was robbed but Stone's performance outshone hers in my eyes.

Why because of Lily's performance OR... no... no... not gonna go there.

And YES Stone deserved the Oscar a 100%! Although I couldn't care less for the Academy Awards at this point. Bunch of narcissists!

Gladstone's performance was superb (again, in my eyes) but Stone encapsulated so much. Her range in Poor Things was bonkers.

For the life of me I just can't bring myself to sit down and watch 'Killers of the Flower Moon'. How long is it? 3 hours...

Assuming you watched it? Worth it?

It's a great film but it over 3 hours long and it's not exactly the most uplifting film. Very dour. Great story, great film making and great acting though.
