Member Omni Dragon Posted July 16, 2023 Member Share Posted July 16, 2023 So there are 3 different musical scores that I know of for Police Story; The first version and probably most well known is the music by Michael Lai, used for the Hong Kong theatrical and Japanese extended versions (1985). The second by Kevin Bassinson, for the export version (1986). The third is by John Peter Robinson, for the New Line Cinema version (1998). For me personally the Michael Lai score is my favourite. To me, it's such a big part of the Police Story experience that it feels like something is missing without it.
Member Chorake Posted August 13, 2023 Member Share Posted August 13, 2023 Music Composed and Performed by KEVIN BASSINSON I'll always love Lai and Tang Siu-Lam's scores for 1 and 2, but my preferred version of Police Story to just casually watch is the export cut. Lai's music is brilliant, but there's nothing quite like Bassinson's score, either. At this point, I've introduced multiple people to the film by way of the export version in Cantonese and they all loved it hahaha. Stand-out piece is the cue where Ka-kui turns himself in. Like in spite of everything that's happened to him, I feel like it conveys the all-but verbal admission of "yeah, I've been a real jerk" better than Lai's melancholic version of Hero Story there.
Member PandaPawPaw Posted August 15, 2023 Member Share Posted August 15, 2023 Michael Lai score (1985, theatrical version). The theme alone is awesome! It really pumps you up for the movie.
