Round 2 between the insane Art the Clown and final girl Sienna from Terrifier 2 is going to happen. It was announced that Terrifier 3 has not only been given the greenlight with Damien Leone returning to write and direct; the budget is expected to be seven figures. The last one only had a budget of $250,000 but made $15 million in limited theaters.

Filming begins later this year for a late 2024 release.

I'll be watching this. Leone deserved a bigger budget, hope he still has some fresh ideas left. Terrifier went from an interesting horror indie to one of the year's biggest horror hits, I was surprised something so gruesome managed to find its way to cinemas around the globe. Congrats to Leone on his success, thumb up for part 3.

I'll watch the shit out of Terrifier 3 but I Leone reins in the more bizarre supernatural elements. The second film felt truly odd towards the end.

Maybe I'm just a bit too old for them, but can someone explain the appeal of the Terrifier movies for me? To me they seemed basically like extra sadistic torture porn, lingering on the gore, gruesomeness, & cruelty with little more to offer. Shit, the original Friday the 13th movie had more plot & character development than they did! The killer in the Terrifier movies looks kind of creepy cool, the "final girl" in the second one was someone I could kind of root for (& the trippy, weird stuff during the finale of the second one was, at least, well, trippy) but, yeah, for me they just seemed like mean spirited torture porn. What am I missing?

I don’t buy in to the term “torture porn” but I definitely think the two movies appealed to the gore hounds among us. As much as some people might not like it, there are a number of horror fans that love bloody violence. The Terrifier movies took gore to another level, especially for films that blew up as big as they did. They were extreme as hell while being a bit cheeky. They walk and interesting line.

The second film has a final girl everyone seemed to love too. She was certainly interesting but it could also be because she’s rather attractive.

Are they good films? Not really. But they care to horror fans’ needs and sometimes, that’s what works.

Yeah, different strokes for different folks and whatnot, I get that. I was never an extreme "gore hound" but I did grow up liking the Friday the 13th series, The Prowler (definitely had an appreciation for Tam Savini's pioneering makeup effects work),  Scanners, The Intruder, B movie stuff like that in the 80s & 90s, & I was interested in how makeup effects were done since the age of 15 or so, but when it came to the Terrifier movies ( I watched them because, as a horror movie fan, I'm always curious about new horror movies that are getting a lot of positive word of mouth),  I didn't see much outstanding in them aside from the excessive gore & sadism. Even if the stories are silly, escapist stuff (as in the Friday the 13th series) I like my gruesome effects with an at least decent story attached or, better yet, with great story telling & characters you can care about (as in The Exorcist & Hereditary) .  Also, I think the real life horrors of war that made the news during the Iraq war & elsewhere, the horrible, senseless, acts of inhuman cruelty inflicted on innocent people that we heard about too often, served as a stark reminder for me that butchering people actually does happen &, if you're capable of empathy at all, it's not "entertaining" at all. Maybe that was why I just couldn't find the depiction of cruelty for the sake of gruesome cruelty entertaining, as I may've been more able to as a teenager.

I hope I don't come off as self-righteous or judgmental, I'm just thinking through some of my own personal history as a horror fan, why my tastes might have changed over time.

I will say this: I'm a very empathetic person and love gore. I don't think the two are mutually exclusive. I think enjoying on screen violence is achievable because we - for the 90 minutes it plays out - separate life from the movies. I certainly couldn't watch an ultra gory horror movie moments after hearing about real life butchering or the atrocities of cartel violence. I like my movies - gory or not - kept well away from my real life. I think it's the dame with sexual violence. Sometimes it serves a purpose in a film (like Irreversible) but I have to separate it from real life sexual violence (something that has been a put of my life).

With that said, I understand where you're coming from. Gore for gore's sake does seem excessive and I'll go as far as to say sometimes pointless.
My love for on screen violence actually stems from my early teens. Back then I was watching ultra gory films from Fulci, Argento and others and because I was so young and goofy, I thought they were the coolest things in the world. I think that influenced me as I grew up and I still have that "content with just violence" gene. I'm not exactly proud of it but I'm also happy that there are millions like me.
However, I have watched fake snuff movies and films that are just 90 minutes of torture and I have certainly disliked them. Hated them, even. I do require a semblance of story. The Terrifier movies have just enough for me. Though I'd much rather watch The Prowler and Intruder too!!

Did you watch any of the Guinea Pig movies?

How the hell do you make a lot darker film than Terrifier 2?

Looking forward to the new deranged adventures of Art the Clown, wonder what Leone has in store this time.

I did. If I recall correctly, I watched them all.

I'm kind of fascinated by people that find Flowers of Flesh and Blood and Devil's Experiment entertaining and watch them multiple times. I understand showing the films to a bunch of friends but I'd never sit down and say to myself, "I fancy watching Flowers of Flesh and Blood tonight." It's the same with films like Slaughtered Vomit Dolls and August Underground, though granted, I've only seen about half of the latter.
Liking horror is fine and dandy. Liking extremely gory horror is also ok. But liking fake snuff and films that literally have no plot and are just an hour of contextless torture is odd to me. I don't understand the entertainment value in those films.
And I'm not saying I back away from the gore. It's not that. It's just that they feel so devoid of anything but said violence. I compare them to a porn scene where people shit on each other. Funny? Yes. But who sits down and says, "Ok, this evening I'll treat myself to shit porn"? Where's the entertainment?

Maybe I'm just not cool.

Official release date will be October 25, 2024!!!!

It gets better....studios wanted to get involved with the new film, but Damien Leone turned them all down and said he wants to do the film himself so he can show his true vision without any pressure from studios to cut down anything. He even warns the first 5 minutes will be very "controversial" as it will be very gory.

The teaser trailer has leaked and honestly, it’s not all that impressive. Not that I was expecting it to be. It’s basically just an announcement that Terrifier 3 will be a Christmas movie with Art dressing as Santa and then killing a kid.

I’m still excited for this one. It’s got a bigger budget which allows them to ramp things up a little.

How does this shit get a third movie! The other two were awful!

Because people are cheap with awful taste. “Oh LoOk ClOwN mOvIe!”

@Bruce’s opinion has been exactly mine all along

Although the tone and filmmaking I do find somewhat enjoyable. Nice and dark atmosphere and the way Art is a supernatural entity capable of spawning fear and mystery.

I just talked to my ‘psychological movies fan friend’ for 2 hours a couple days ago, old coworker I havent seen in almost 10 years. He told me I should check out “The Jester” short film trilogy.  I found them way too similar, just without the gore. Apparently its a common comparison as I hear after seeing @AlbertV interviewed the director.   The turning people into frozen silver masked people was sort of interesting.  Like Terrifier though, still little to no plot lol.

Thanks for checking out the interview with the director of The Jester. Was interesting to know of the comparison and I liked what they did with the feature film version as well.

This is a really solid trailer. Has very 90's vibes, mixed with the grindhouse feel of the first two films. On top of that, I don't think it reveals too much. I'm very intrigued with who that blacksmith is. He made the sword she had in part 2? I'm more pumped for this one than I thought I would be. I might try going to the theater for this one, if I decide to do the usual "30 horror films in 30 days" in October...

I'm planning to see this and told my 18-year old daughter about it and she still needs to see the 2nd one (which will happen soon), but we are going to see it when it hits October 11.
