Interestingly wacky comic-book take on Bruce Lee's life with a rocking theme song and decent villain in Ernest "Curt" Curtis (even though he is dubbed to sound like Foghorn Leghorn on helium). The transfer is very nice, especially since the old VCI DVD was a 4:3 transfer squished into fake widescreen!

I noticed some jump cuts in the opening birth scene, which seems to have been to remove shots of baby Bruce's willy!

 

SUPER DRAGON: THE BRUCE LEE STORY

Very on-the-nose biopic (the first) with awful fights but an intriguing plot that resulted in a few lawsuits - everyone from Betty Ting Pei to Mr and Mrs Lo Wei gets put through the grinder.

Licensed from Mulicon, the Transfer (same as that on Amazon Prime) looks nice, but the sound is bad - dialogue sounds clear, but the music track is horrendously compressed sounding. This is the dub heard on the older Ocean Shores DVD (with some bits only in Mandarin), with Bruce called "Shao Long" and voiced by someone with a heavy Asian accent. Oddly, there is a bit in the party scene where you suddenly hear Ted Thomas and Chris Hilton dubbing lines, suggesting there was another HK produced dub.

This isn't the American release, DRAGONS DIE HARD, which was re-dubbed in Europe and which included clips of Bruce Leung and Cheung Nick from other productions spliced in. You can hear this dub on the German DVD release.

Severin seems a bit confused as to which SUPER DRAGON is which. The TV spot they include is for a different Bruce Li SUPER DRAGON, which is a retitled BRUCE LEE SUPERSTAR. Funny how Bruce Li's movies got mixed up in America the same way Bruce Lee's movies did!

Sounds like they've just slapped on the us theatrical print without due care.if it was arrow,eureka or 88 they'd have inserted that scene into the print. Not like they don't have it,it's in the extras !

At least it wasn't a British print, that would have removed the nunchaku fight!

I have the Arrow UK DVD from the early 2000's and that has the Nunchaku scenes and the fight that's removed from this set. Seems strange.

That was released on DVD after the BBFC stopped censoring films.

I was referring more to if Severin had to use a vintage British print from the 70s.

I had the chance to sit down again with Frank Djeng recently to talk about his work and experiences producing the Enter The Clones of Bruce Documentary for Severin, Frank travelled to HK several times over several years to interview most of the key players in the doc.

I need to know what happened to Alexander Grand and Mr Colin from Clones Of Bruce Lee. If the doc doesn't answer that then it#s incomplete imo.
