Moderator One Armed Boxer Posted November 12, 2022 Moderator Share Posted November 12, 2022 Yes lists are always subjective, but they also always make for an entertaining read (and subsequent debate!). This one was put together by votes from 158 international film critics from 28 countries spanning every continent except Antarctica. I'm happy to say there's less than 10 which I haven't seen, and for the most part find it to be a pretty solid overview of Korean cinema throughout the past 70+ years (unlike so many best of Korean Movie Lists, which only seem to consider the past 30 years!). Check them out below! - 100 - 51: https://www.koreanscreen.com/100-greatest-korean-films-100-51 50 - 1: https://www.koreanscreen.com/100-greatest-korean-films-50-1 (How the list was put together - https://www.koreanscreen.com/100-greatest-korean-films-how-made)

No Elton Chong, and I would say no "pure" martial arts movies such as the ones we are used to.
Member J.J. Hayden Posted November 12, 2022 Member Share Posted November 12, 2022 Pretty good list, there's a lot there I've not seen, mostly due to my tastes. It's a shame there's not more films containing martial arts on there (no Elton Chong ), but when you've got such good "regular" cinema coming from South Korea it's not a surprise.. Happy to see JSA and Memories Of Murder so high on the list, I'd recommend them to anyone.
Member laagi Posted November 12, 2022 Member Share Posted November 12, 2022 (edited) Burning (2018) is No. 1!? Okay then. Otherwise an interesting list. Realising now that apparently I've only scratched the surface of korean cinema. Also I always found Snowpiercer to be ridiculously overrated. But hey in the end as @One Armed Boxer said it's just a list. Thanks for posting. Last but not least really disappointed that Miss Baek (2018) didn't even make the list. Among quite a few others that spring to mind. Edited November 12, 2022 by laagi
