there were obviously a lot of shaws that were not dubbed into english but i believe that there were a lot more in english that we are aware of. i mean dubbed shaws were popular in all english speaking parts of the world not just america--also english dubbed shaws played in lots of countries with foreign sub tittles. problem is that people in these countries are not aware of their popularity or value.

So how many new Shaw dubs have popped up in the last 3-5 years?

I dug up this old thread and made it a sticky so it wouldn't get lost -- like some of these dubs.

Would be interesting to see an updated list of the known dubs and a list of the MIA's.

(Oh, for those of you not around in 2006/7, ignore the posts by Frank Lakatos.)

hi---very good list, very accurate, pretty much the exact list i have and go buy. i have a few you could add to the may or may not exist list--AMBUSH--BLACK TAVERN--CALL TO ARMS--HEROES OF SUNG and TO KILL A MASTERMIND. according to my research BUDHA PALM--FLYING DAGGER and INVINCIBLE FIST english dubs are in the hands of DD and we will have to wait and see what's going on with them. also the english dubs for PIRATE--DEADLY KNIVES--SEXY KILLER and QUEEN HUSTLER are at the LOC(library of congress), so another we'll have to wait and see. i myself believe that some of the english dub rares are owned by people on this very site but for whatever reason they are holding them back. i really wish they would relent and let everyone know what they've got. LADY EXECUTIONER watchable dub was available at flashlegs but is now no longer listed. i know for a fact that someone has the dubs to KID FROM KWANTUNG,BLACK LIZARD and at least six other rares but they have dropped out of the circle for a while now. the way i see it is--let's get every available english dub to the fans by any means possible, i mean i'd like to see these before i'm in my seventies. i notice on your harder to obtain but known to exist list you have CLAN FEUDS--INVINCIBLE FIST and LEGEND OF THE FOX. i have the others on this list but have not yet found these three yet--by any chance do you have copies or could you point me in the right direction ? anyway---thanks, it's nice to know that i'm not the only one interested in the english dubs.

Thanks guys! And I’ll definitely update my list with your info bobo. The news about Kid from Kwantung and Black Lizard made my day. I had pretty much given up all hope for those two. I had figured that if they hadn’t shown up by now that they were probably gone forever. However, I had thought the same about Rendezvous with Death… but all of a sudden its dub pops up out of nowhere. Hopefully we will have a lot more surprises in the coming years.

As far as the other three that you mention (Clan Feuds, Invincible Fist, Legend of the Fox), I unfortunately do not have those either. I need to check back through my notes, but I think they were listed in another forum….

Edit:

Unfortunately, I could not find strong enough evidence that these three titles are in circulation amongst traders and have moved them into the MIA list.... for now

THE MIGHTY PEKING MAN has been available on DVD for years! It was released by Quentin Tarantino and Miramax, and is readily available for $10 or less on ebaY, so I wouldn't say that it is hard to obtain!

I have just about everything on that list myself which were once easily available from commercial sources - THE KILLER (aka SACRED KNIVES OF VENGEANCE) and THE CHINATOWN KID were available on VHS from WB in the UK,

THE CHINATOWN KID was also available uncut and in ShawScope from Southgate Home Video,

THE WATER MARGIN (aka SEVEN BLOWS OF THE DRAGON) was available on VHS from WB for decades, and

THE STRANGER AND THE GUNFIGHTER (aka BLOOD MONEY) is a spaghetti-western that was never in Chinese to begin with, it was always in English or Italian because it is an American/Italian/Shaw Bros. co-production released by Columbia Pictures, and was made available on VHS both sides of the Atlantic.

Lastly, as for BRUCE LEE AND I, check your cable TV listings for BRUCE LEE - HIS LAST DAYS, HIS LAST NIGHTS as I have recorded the World Northal English dubbed version directly from ENCORE ACTION several times in as many years!

Thanks venomchamber!!

I did know about a few of those movies, but definitely not all of them. It sure makes it a lot easier to hunt something down when you know exactly what you’re looking for .

As for The Mighty Peking Man, I did know about the DVD you mentioned, but I did not feel comfortable putting it in the list with the legit distributers. But this was only because the other DVD releases in that list contain both the English dub and the Chinese audio, while that particular DVD lacks the Mandarin audio. But you are right, it’s definitely not hard to find and kinda sticks out like a sore thumb in that list. At one point WellGo had plans of releasing it with the dual audio, but I guess the Weinsteins still had some of the rights to the film and prevented its release.

I had forgotten that I added The Stranger and the Gunfighter. I should have either removed it or created a short list specifically for the Shaws that have no Chinese audio, like the other Hammer/Shaw coproductions. Also, The Stranger and the Gunfighter has a few (semi) legit DVD releases including Videoasia and another European distributer (the name escapes me) that has dual audio.

Thanks for the info on Bruce Lee and I, I had no clue on that one .

when you say THE DRAGON MISSILE is available, do you mean the english dub ? anyway i notice the shaw bros forum gets pretty dull when there is no new info on english dub titles. i just received a reply from WELLGO USA today and they stated that they plan to resume releasing some shaw bros movies at the end of 2012 or into 2013---so if it's true that at least is something--some hope. i'm still hoping that THE KID FROM KWANGTUNG, BLACK LIZARD and at least 6 others will eventually be shared.

Sorry for the delayed response, but yep, I was referring to the English dub.

It seems that WellGo may be our only hope of legit Shaw releases for the time being. It has been mentioned that there is a chance that they will release The Trail of the Broken Blade and Death Duel. If WellGo does release TTotBB with the dub it would be a welcome improvement in picture quality when compared to the Siren release. But if they manage to release Death Duel with its long lost dub… now that would be something pretty exciting.

I was looking through the lists and noticed I had made a mistake on two of the films in the English dub MIA list.

The Champion (1973) – aka: Shanghai Lil and the Sunluck Kid and Karate King

This basher doesn’t look like it was released by IVL nor was it included in the ZiiEagle box. However a few websites like rarekungfumovies.com and flkcinema.com are offering this as an English dub only that I believe was sourced from a German print. And it appears that it is actually the Chinese audio that is rare or MIA.

Also it looks like I have a similar situation with Lady Exterminator (1977), where the English dub can be found at flkcinema.com, but I cannot find the Chinese audio. I think bobo had mentioned it before and I had missed it.

As for The Dragon Missle, I'm sorry but I don't know the story on how they found and got to share the dub.

I couple months ago I was contacted by someone from these boards who claimed he was the source of some of those rare Shaw dubs that were recently uncovered. He told me he would have some more soon for more of those custom IVL DVD's. He has now vanished after telling me there would probably be more on the way. He now no longer replies to my emails..

I thought it was too good to be true.

it's pretty amazing all the english dubs that are showing up on tv in africa and india ( boxtv ------> FLYING DAGGER--BLOODY ESCAPE--VENGEANCE IS A GOLDEN BLADE--RAW COURAGE--HEADS FOR SALE--LADY PROFESSIONAL--DUEL FOR GOLD--THE CASINO--THE BASTARD--POLICE FORCE--THE PIRATE--THE SEXY KILLER--FULL MOON SCIMITAR--INVINCIBLE ENFORCER--WHAT PRICE HONESTY--BLACK LIZARD--THE WEIRD MAN--MY REBELLIOUS SON--ANONYMOUS HEROES--BAMBOO HOUSE OF DOLLS--KID WITH A TATTOO--BOXER FROM THE TEMPLE-- BUDDAS PALM and most of the other more well known titles. so it would appear that these and still other titles do exist with dubs after all. what i find hard to believe is that nobody in those countries has recorded any of these and offered them up---as least not that i'm aware of. celestial keeps saying that they will be available on north american itunes but won't say when. where is pan media when you need them ? some ones got to eventually find a copy of some of these.:smile::bigsmile::nerd:

When do you guys think the next good Shaw dub will come around & what will it be?

I am really hoping for Death Duel, The Lady Assassin, or the 1st Sentimental Swordsman.

It is Sunday morning and I'm sitting with 'The Bloody Parrot' showing, and I'll switch around a bit, all my good Shaw's are on a 2TB drive and I can switch around pretty quick.

I really hope some new dubs come soon. The India TV channel sounds promising!

Now that more and more TV channels are being broadcast in HD and AMC/Cablevision and Dish network have settle their dispute (in favor of AMC/Cablevision for about $700M). If would be nice if Cablevision brings back VOOM HD/Kung Fu HD or a revamp version (but that is wishful thinking). ::tongue:

Kung Fu HD did show a good amount of Shaw movies dubbed plus other studios movies before Cablevision pull the plug.

I did watch about 45-50 SB movies dubbed on Kung Fu HD before the plug was pulled.

There is an old thread on VOOM HD/Kung FU HD here:

Pretty much all the Voom dubs have been made into custom DVD. The well is dry. Now waiting to tap into the new well.

Oh my goodness, I hope so!

What do you think would be the 1st few up?

(How you been, btw? :smile2: )
