Special thanks to @rdenn, now that I've had access to the films credits, I've translated the cast and crew, and most importantly the title :P

Although the film shares a few cast members and locations it's actually not connected to Vindictive Venom and was filmed a year or so earlier.

It's real name is Achilles Heel [1997] and was directed by Ham Cheol-hoon, who may be familiar to Korean action fans, he's been playing side roles in many films from the late 70's onward, and during the 90's was a prolific action director before settling more into directing and cinematography. The role that springs to my mind also has a Won Jin connection, as he played the senior of Won Jin and the two kids in Brave Trio [1988] (Won Jin's first starring Role), he gets a cool little fight scene where he gets to show that he could've been a star too, with those kicking and gymnastic skills. Ham Cheol-hoon also appeared in Won Jin's first film after coming back from Hong Kong, Boy Wong Fei-hung [1993].

image.jpeg.517682b1d9d7ab874b35870c4887d5df.jpeg

Lee In-seop (Jackie Chan's main stunt double) is the lead and Ricky Jun is here too but in a supporting role. There's some other familiar names such as Yang Tae-gil, Choe Myung-ho and Kim Min-soo (but which one :P). Of course Won Jin is the special guest star, story of his life :P.

Feels great to solve this mystery at last.

It's been a busy month so far for me, especially when it comes to martial arts cinema stuff. I was: researching several Korean films; some Won Jin stuff (then even more when the Achilles Heel breakthrough); and some stuff to do with the Jackie Chan Stunt Team and some of the films they worked on. At the same time, I discovered that ripping my DVDs to MPG files using Wonderfox resulted in better quality picture for taking screenshots from (for the most part), but the size of the files are very large, so I've bought a new LARGER external hard-drive and I in the process of converting my collection AGAIN.

Some of you may be aware that I've been invited to contribute to the HKMDB, and since the original concerns I had have been addressed, I agreed. I'm still getting used to things, but it seems to be going well. I've only done a few things so far: getting Korean posters and titles for all the Korean crossovers I could find; updated the Jackie Chan Stunt Team page to show all the “official members” and linked their individual pages back to the JCST page; ID'd Yeong Seop and uploaded screenshots from his few films (though some will need re-doing); and apart from a few little things here and there including some updates to: The Accidental Spy; Mr. Nice Guy; Who Am I?; New Police Story; also full cast lists and screenshots for important roles (and martial artists) in Shanghai Knights and Around The World In 80 Days.

Usually I'd add any new info here first, but with so much going on I kinda forgot, but I will upload the more interesting parts here soon, I won't include the pics of Owen Wilson etc. so to see the whole lot, check out the pages on the HKMDB.

Thanks to all those the continue to support my research and contributions.

Cheers

Was working on something else but one name led me to doing an over-haul for the pics on the film The Ultimate War of Kongfu Saga [2015], only one of the pics had the correct name and several were missing. So I added a few cast members and some more (but lower quality) pics, then ID'd everyone, with two exceptions. I couldn't figure out which character's name belonged to which face, though I had an idea, I couldn't be sure.

I added a bunch of pics for the forgettable Mummy 3. But the only cast members of real interest are the assassins, Jacky Wu Jing who many may not have noticed or just forgotten was in this film (it's quite easy to forget this film as a whole), and the other two Wei Bing-hua and Guo Jing who hadn't yet had any photo ID.

Here's some of the pics and IDs I provided on The Medallion, such a disappointing film considering the amount of talent involved. Even while going through the 15 deleted scenes, I'm certain they cut even more from the film, especially considering that Kim Woo-seok (aka Bruce Khan) is listed in the cast yet I can't see him anywhere. I have some bts pics that show him there though, same goes for Richardo Mamood-Vega and Uri L. Schwarz, so what gives?

image.jpeg.1ae55b3d5f2586205e5ac8817bc749d9.jpeg

Alexander Bao (in regular clothes)

image.jpeg.2ac50dd11ded49660057d12f72cbf4c7.jpeg

Billy Hill (playing Miles Watson, Lee Evan's and Christy Cheung's son)

image.jpeg.11a191e081565d9b3d1d62600b1ee492.jpeg

Diana C. Weng (playing Undercover Woman, this seems to be her only acting credit, she's usually a dialogue coach)

image.jpeg.1806d33e296ee1300663f26ccd6d3341.jpeg

Neilí Conroy (playing Interpol receptionist)

image.jpeg.72539a7eab960d07c72236da33cbcc63.jpeg

Howard Gibbins (playing Professor of archaeology)

image.jpeg.ec2495eaaaec6d992f40c886916209ed.jpeg

Mona Lynn (playing Astrologer)

The rest are all stunt guys (some might be familiar to you) playing Snakehead's henchmen:

Reuben Langdon as a hench and then as Snakehead himself, as he doubled for Julian Sands.

Speaking o doubles, here's an extra pic, Park Hyeon-jin doubling the great Chan himself for the B-twist.

image.jpeg.daca8f8503f215b04347489e9c31e61c.jpeg

Paul Andreovski, credited as Doctor kidnapping Jai, even though he in a lot more than that one scene, oh well.

Brad Allan at the hospital + ninja mode.

image.jpeg.389fc662b42ef6b40c1da9e459404755.jpeg

Mark Strange, very talented British martial arts guys, similar to a lot of the gwailo's around this time, they had better skills that the old guard IMO and better but got never got a real chance to show their stuff.

image.jpeg.e8db5f1dd1b7425f66cf6da9bbe8ed53.jpeg

Jude Poyer, do I need to say anything?

image.jpeg.7264f43404aef772c041fc3bc9d1b97a.jpeg

Matt Routledge, another Brit, here in ninja mode. He is another to have his scenes cut as there's some bts shots of him at the shipping yard in a nice suit. Where the hell are all these missing scenes?

image.jpeg.a189a2163d43c94e37e48ef28d16405b.jpeg

image.jpeg.9e45c487e8ac9afab1f86c1a72906e63.jpeg

Marky Lee Campbell, Australian, I think (there's so many Aussie's I know that have turned out to actually be from UK but moved down under when they were kids). This isn't the only time he's worked with JC, he's in Twins Effect and is one of the many Aussie henchmen in Mr. Nice Guy (I'm working on that now, I'm quite pleased with my work so far :P).

image.jpeg.bfe4caf0759f55028db2e59d54d1d372.jpeg

Daniel O'Neill, amazing martial artist who's been very sadly wasted, in this and his other HK films, he even had a fight scene with Tony Jaa in Warrior King that was cut from even the extended Thai version. You do get to see some good stuff from him in a film called Bangkok Adrenaline, especially his fight with fellow super kicking Tim Man, but the whole thing just doesn't quite do it, it's hard to describe, still worth checking out though.

image.jpeg.742aea21be96c4449e5e4b9308ea1f86.jpeg

Han Guan-hua, one of the "official members" of the JC stunt team but here, pretty much just a prop, perhaps he's another victim of the extensive cuts.

image.jpeg.8fdd93befe04ccfbf7c42a53fa156ef6.jpeg

James P. Bennett, big guy with a small role, he basically is running in this scene, then shots his gun aaaaand  he's gone!

image.jpeg.d5acb67c4ddedf4f827245773b021422.jpeg

Chris Torres, I think a lot of the gwailos in this film were probably disappointed with what it actually meant to be in a Jackie Chan film.

image.jpeg.79314fe363990cabff1b1c41e063b06f.jpeg

Erik Markus Schuetz, people might remember him for his brief role as Pearl Harbour in Ong-Bak, when he gets one-smacked by Tony's foot to his face. He's also with Tony in Warrior King.

image.jpeg.9e6d2fd27f000f5f38dbdd0479b425a5.jpeg

David Ismalone, another Ong-Bak alumni, but with a more substantial role than Erik, he played the part of Mad Dog, the brawler in the fight club who trashes the place.

hope this was interesting

Cheers

Wasn't aware Mark Strange, Matt Routledge and Daniel O'Neill appeared in HK movies. And I love Bangkok Adrenaline, O'Neill kills it there.

Yeah, it's pretty good, I just felt it could've been so much better. It reminds me of Tony Jaa's films without Panna, the choreography and pacing of the fights is off. Even with Dan and Tim's fight, I much prefer to go and watch their show reels.

It's definitely the best of the three MA/action films Raimund Huber directed in Thailand. Besides, once you start digging through the Thai stuff that came out after (and because of) Ong Bak, you start appreciating Bangkok Adrenaline.

It's with a heavy heart that I must announce some terrible news. The Naver movie database has been shut down. This was an invaluable tool for gaining information on Korean films, particularly the TV movies of the 90s.

I only found out today, not that it would've made much difference, as it was announced on the 27th and gone by the 31st, nowhere near enough time to grab the info on all those martial arts movies and TV shows, so it seems that a great deal of info and Korean movie history will be lost forever.

image.jpeg.f0d3fd8608795c91cc220705cd200266.jpeg

Farewell to the Naver movie database, it served me well.

While going through some of the stuff I saved from Naver, I came across these adorable pics of Jet Li Lian-jie when he was a kid, but I also noticed that one of them (or perhaps all) feature a lil Xu Xiang-dong too, so cute.

UPDATE: I wish I wasn't forced to post this, I was hoping sanity would prevail but I guess it's just the way of the world these days. Unfortunately Thorsten Boose has decided to publicly defame me on FB, claiming that I've “stolen” the JC Stunt Team list from him. Slimy as that was, I did reach out to him and gave him a whole week to make a retraction, but he has not done so. So just so the truth is out there along with the lies, here it is.

Basically: A few weeks after being invited to become an editor for HKMDB, I decided to update their JC Stunt Team list to match up with the new list updated from I Am Jackie Chan (2022), on the forum page (where new info is deliberated) I gave him credit for the good work he'd done and even put a link to his website and told others to check it out and singing it's praises, the same as I did here.

But shortly after this I got an email from Throsten saying he'd seen the update and (at this point) politely stated that he felt that he should be credited for the HKMDB update too as he had done a lot of work and gave me credit on his site (which in reality was just a “mention” down with the people who corrected his spelling etc., but I didn't make a big deal of it), he also (rather cheekily) suggested putting a link to his site on there too.

I responded, telling him that I did give him full credit for his work (pretty much mirroring what is here on KFF) in the HKMDB forum where that kind of stuff usually goes and I also had added his link, it just doesn't show up on the database page itself, being new I wasn't sure about what the rules where for linking to outside websites there, I hadn't seen it done before and I'm no coder.

He then replied again, still polite enough but it was much more obvious that he was demanding (rather than asking) what credit he thought he was untitled too. He made assertions that the information on the HKMDB page for the JC Stunt Team taken was from his research and that he alone had worked for years on the JC team. He again (more blatantly) stated that he should be credited as “the source” of the info on the JC Team and that his name and a link to his site should be put on the HKMDB database page.

I was a bit annoyed at the arrogance on display, but I thought it might be down to a language barrier or something. But as anyone who's had involvement with me knows, I always give credit to even the smallest of things, so I decided I'd ask the boss about the matter after I slept. However, when I woke I had a message from a mate saying that Throsten had publicly defamed me on his FB page and unfortunately it turned out to be true. A few hours after his email (and behind my sleeping back), instead of acting like a professional (or even just someone with a standard ethical code) he stated that “his research” had been “stolen” and “copied” and credit given to “someone else” on HKMDB (one-click to know it's me he's talking about, quite pathetic to try that “In Minecraft, bro” crap). It's quite ironic as well that he mentions the HKMDB in this post claiming “stolen”, “copied” etc., despite so much on his site was lifted from there with no link to the site or credits for the site or it's contributors, long before I was recruited.

Obviously I was pretty pissed by this cowardly act, from a published “author” who knows exactly how his post reads and trying to spread this lie with whatever limited clout he may have online. Naturally lowly peasants such as myself, need to know our place and give all credit for our own hard work to our betters, it is the way of things. Despite all this and “unprofessional” as I am, I did the ethical thing and sent a message to the boss like I said I would, I told Thorsten of this as well as telling him what I thought of the whole situation. Again, I did the ethical thing and rather than swiftly defaming him publicly, I instead gave him time to reflect on his actions and put out a retraction.

There was a point during the week I thought he may have come to his senses, when after removing my name from his website for several days, he put it back up, but sadly it seems it was just to cover his ass and he's not reconsidered his actions.

So with a week passed and the due retraction not having materialized, I'm forced to post this stupid message so that the truth is out there at least. Unlike Thorsten, I will leave my credits to him as they are, as despite what an unethical prick he turned out to be, he still did do some good research. There were signs early on that this might be a dodgy situation to get involved in, but against my better judgement I did, for the fans. Obviously I won't be directly helping him from this point on.

The last thing I'll say is: now more than ever be VERY careful when helping out “authors” and “journalists” etc., so many lack any ethical code and will throw you under the bus with a smile whilst claiming victimhood. Not all, just be VERY careful.

Cheers

I've finally finished it, my project to try and ID some of the Aussie actors + stuntmen from Mr. Nice Guy. It took some time to do as there was a lot of names and little to work with beyond that. For many it was their only film, and for the rest, most were in hardly any other things, certainly not much in the way of easy to find. Then I got delayed by some bullshit and also digging into other rabbit holes too, got alot done but it's been a hectic few weeks.

It was interesting to find out more about Aussie stunt men, so little is known about them, some of the guys here even did  stunts for the Mad Max films. I was also surprised to discover how many of them worked on the TV soap opera Neighbours, then again, that show went on for ever, so it's probably hard to find an Aussie who didn't appear on it.

I managed to ID about 33 of 42 of Giancarlo's Men (7 of which, the credit on Mr. Nice Guy is the only sign they ever existed), so I'm quite pleased with how it turned out, it was pretty frustrating at times. :P

I'll post one pic for each (also David No without the shades on, who played one of the Demon Gang and Frederick Miragliotta, who played the Head NEA Agent), there's one or two familiar faces, but I'll bet most will be brand new to you. Enjoy :D

Did another deep dive into the cast of a Jackie Chan film, this time it's Who Am I?.

There was less to do than with Mr. Nice Guy but has probably been more difficult as info on the Dutch and South African cast members seems a lot harder to come by, there were actually a few that I ID'd in real life, but for reasons listed below couldn't ID them in the film.

There's also the problem of what seems to me to be lots of scenes deleted from the finished print, as some characters don't seem to appear at all (even in the available deleted scenes) and some are on screen for one shot and then gone. Also at least one (but I suspect several) is playing a different character than they're credited as on the film. Dick Rienstra is credited as Army, yet in the English print he's clearly the Air Force and I'm no expert but I believe his uniform is that of the Air Force, especially as there are two other characters (though blink and you'll miss them) that appear to be in Army uniform and Marines uniform. Obviously I'll put the right name to the right pic, but what shall I do with the credit?

I've also added all the stunt team as Stunt Doubles as I managed to spot each an every one of them doubling at some point in the film, especially Nicky Li who seemed to double everyone. There were times I thought Kwan Yung could've been doubling too and maybe even William Duen but couldn't be sure on either. I did however spot Kwan Yung as a stuntman in the hospital scene. The team were very busy on this film.

I've got a bunch of new pics and some are of people already ID'd that I picked up along the way. I am pleased people are enjoying the info I'm digging up.

Cheers

Kwan Yung playing a second role, basically just a stuntman for where the hospital starts blowing up, several of the team have similar cameos.

image.jpeg.be7870a994c3205f6f4a9be216e08c8d.jpeg

Brad Allan, not only does he play a thug and do some doubling, he plays a hospital visitor and rally team member (in the same scene), then later plays a poor waiter who gets caught in the crossfire.

Paul Adreovski, similar to Brad, plays a thug and also shows up at the hospital.

image.jpeg.64eaef60dd1748338d7a9b68feab4a4c.jpeg

Brent Houghton, another blink and you'll miss 'em, playing one of the bodyguards who are in this one shot (pretty much) and that's it, they do nothing, maybe there was cut scenes? I thought it strange seeing his name under props, but as you see he's actually in the film just uncredited. Not sure why he's here though, maybe Brad and Paul brought him along from Mr. Nice Guy?

Nicky Li Chung-chi, plays a member of the rally team, but also one of the thugs. I reckon he's meant to be a double for some gwailos but the outfits and numbers don't quite match, so I count it as another role.

image.jpeg.1bd09818b6a4cc84bbfe359c553c47d6.jpeg

Andy Cheng Kai-chung, plays a rally team member, but also at the hospital, couldn't get any decent close ups though.

image.jpeg.4236b0c5a019be9c754edf3348bbfb47.jpeg

Rocky Lai Keung-kun, we all know that cue-ball even from behind.

Chan Man-ching, same as Nicky Li playing a thug, and then as another civilian alongside Rocky Lai.

Well, that's all the ID's I could confirm. I hope this is useful info for fellow fans.

Another update to my JC Stunt Team list. I've got further updates on the way too, I'm a bit tangled at the moment, trying to do too much at once and trying to prioritize certain things, so many interesting rabbit holes, it's hard to control myself :P

Here's a cool bts photo from Operation Scorpio I've had for a while, but only recently got help translating it (thanks @String), then it got put on hold again, so busy. But the text on the image itself isn't of much interest except that the film at that point was called Manga Fist.

The more interesting thing is the caption on the Korean blog said that this was the first day of filming at Golden Harvest Studios in 1991. As you can see we have the main cast: Chin Ka-lok; Won Jin; Liu Chia-liang; May Lo Mei-mei and Wu Fung all looking very happy together.
