Member venomsreviews Posted May 11, 2022 Member Share Posted May 11, 2022 (edited) This is another actor that I could say a lot of positive things about. Chu Ko has always been a favorite of mine. I felt that he distinguished himself as he always delivered stunning fight sequences and combined them with solid performances. I feel that his weapons work in Masked Avengers (1981) and The Sword Stained with Royal Blood (1981) are two good examples of his capabilities. It was evident that he knew how to play different characters as he always brought them to life and each seemed to have different mannerisms or personalities. He has also had more roles in the film industry aside from just being an actor. He has also been a martial arts director, an assistant action designer, and an assistant martial arts director! Lately, I have been reading a lot about him, and one magazine also mentioned that he was a director too. From what I have found from my research, he is still working! There are some really cool videos of him demonstrating action choreography and instructing some actors, which I plan on finding the links to so I can share them with you all because I really enjoyed watching them! It is always interesting to see what he has been doing recently and even in the past. I have been intrigued by some of his later movies, like The Child of Peach (1987). I always like to provide a little information about the actors in these threads as well. Chu Ko also comes from Taiwan, and he also studied Peking opera. One of the magazine pages that I have about him says that he was sent there when he was six years old! According to the source I just mentioned, he would first appear in small roles during the late 70s before coming to Hong Kong in 1980. That was when he started to get more prominent roles in the 80s. He often worked closely with the Venom Mob and later took over as an action director at Shaw Brothers. He still does a lot of action choreography, as I noted earlier. There are a lot of instances where I have actually seen him get on stage and perform, even in his later years, which was really neat! I really wanted to make this thread to appreciate him, his talent, and hopefully discuss him with other people on here that may be fans of his. Member venomsreviews Posted May 20, 2022 Author Member Share Posted May 20, 2022 I was reading an interview with Chu Ko last night! He talked about how he got into the movie industry. He said a large number of martial artists and stunt doubles were needed in Hong Kong as there was a large market for martial arts and action films in the 70s. In the later part of the 70s, he got the chance to work as a stunt double for Shaw Brothers. He started to be an action director after that. Chu Ko added that it was difficult when he first started since there were so many great actors who were martial artists and action directors. He also mentioned that it was very competitive back then.
