Member J.J. Hayden Posted April 9, 2022 Member Share Posted April 9, 2022 Hello all. I was wondering if anybody has some suggestions for best search engines for info and images of Hong Kong movies? Are Chinese sites better because of their connection to HK or are they too censored? All suggestions and ideas are welcome. Cheers
1 Member Cognoscente Posted April 10, 2022 Member Share Posted April 10, 2022 https://image.so.com/ is a very good search engine. You can find archived images of articles from magazines or newspapers that were sold a long time ago on WorthPoint (a nice alternative to reading articles for free on eBay). Occasionally, you might find an English article in a Chinese magazine on an auction site like https://www.ruten.com.tw/ or https://www.carousell.com.hk/ as long as you copy and paste the Chinese characters into the search bars. I also recommend these Chinese sites: Baidu, Douban and Weibo. Rare posters, stills and production photos can be found on Kinopoisk and (to a lesser extent) CSFD. Sometimes, it's the non-Chinese sites where you will find a treasure trove of info or images on a particular subject. For example, if you use the Wayback Machine to visit the defunct French Jet Li site: http://www.ifrance.com/jetli-cinema/enter/index.htm 1
0 Member kuenfist Posted April 10, 2022 Member Share Posted April 10, 2022 It belongs what you are looking for. 10 years ago there was a german site where you can get from every fu movie what was released in germany cinema lobbycards and posters (some chinese ones too). Pity it is long gone. Cover of DVD or BluRay releases are easy to find. On HKMDB many movies have pictures from old HK magazines and sometimes posters of the movies. On asian sites you can find much but it is not easy cause of the often mismatched translation of the movie titels in english.
0 Member J.J. Hayden Posted April 10, 2022 Author Member Share Posted April 10, 2022 Cheers for the info, they do have some decent stuff on HKMDB and sometimes on sites you can find with Google, Duckduckgo etc. and I'm aware of how difficult it can be with the language barrier and the Chinese stuff will be worse than the Korean, lol, but I'll do the best I can with it. But I'm trying to dig deeper, more info on actors, directors, film production, news articles and hopefully some behind the scenes pics and info. Basically I'm gearing up to do a deep dive into some Chinese films. Do you know any search engines that would be useful in this regard?
