Tai Seng's Three-Movie VHS "Series"

This is a sort of a "museum post" for us fans from the late 90s to reminisce about. Around 1997, Tai Seng stopped charging 50 bucks each for movies broken up into two VHS tapes (apparently because of laser disc transfers) and started making their movies commercially available at places like Tower Video and stuff for "normal" prices (19.95 for important films with letterbox and redone subs, and 14.95 for low-budget action films with bad dubs). They also had clamshell case releases of movies with the burned-on subs for 39.95. In any case, a lot of obscure 90s action movies were released as part of "series" connected by some theme, usually an actor. But sometimes the mash-ups were just really out there. Let's take a look:

The Shaolin Classic Series

Descendant of Wing Chun (1978)
Legend of the Drunken Tiger (1991)
Shaolin Avengers (1994)

The Angel Series

Angel's Mission (1989)
Angel of Kickboxer (1989) - alternate title of A Punch to Revenge
Angel on Fire (1995)

The Asian Connection Series

Cheetah on Fire (1992)
Thunder Run (1991)
Power Connection (1995)

The "Yam Can Kill" Series

Cypress Tigers (1990)
Killer's Romance (1990)
Mission Kill (1990) - alternate title of Mission of Condor

The Robin Shou Action Series

Eastern Heroes (1991) - alternate title of Fury in Red
Fatal Chase (1992)
Interpol Connection (1992) - alternate title of Hard to Kill

The "La Femme Oshima" Series

Ultracop 2000 (1992)
Guardian Angel (1994)
Fatal Target (1994) - alternate title of Deadly Target

The Mayhem Madness Series

Kickfighter (1989) - alternate title of Final Run
Phantom War (1991)
Lethal Extortion (1994)

The Moon Lee Action Series

Killer Angels (1989)
Devil Hunters (1989)
Beauty Investigators (1992)

The Femme Fatale Series

Thunder Mission (1992) - alternate title of Raiders of Loesing Treasure
Madame City Hunter (1993)
Kickboxer's Tears (1993)

The Lethal Series

Lethal Panther (1991)
Lethal Panther 2 (1993)
Lethal Girls 2 (1992) - alternate title of The Story of the Gun

The China Heat Series

China Heat (1992)
Hard to Die (1990) - Alternate title of The Dragon Fighter
Spider Force (1993) - Alternate title of Sex for Sale

(Are there any series that I'm missing?)

To this day my favorite trailer of the series is La Femme Oshima. I just LOVE the way it's written. I could probably recite it all these years later. Truly, my favorite Asian movie trailer

Yam can Kill isn't bad either

I remember my dad walking into the room during the Yam Can Kill trailer. He laughed when they revealed the name of the "series." It helps to have been at least vaguely aware of 90s cooking shows to get the joke.

My favorite trailer was the Angel Action Series one. It starts out with a short cuts of bad guys from the three movies and a voice over saying something like..."Pimps...robbers...drug dealers...traffickers...criminals...and stone cold killers..."
