Picked up SHAOLIN INVINCIBLES/SEVEN TO ONE at the VS store in Aurora yesterday.  Really nice presentations even if the prints are a bit rough.  An appreciated release!

Picked this up at a Local Disc Replay today. I am glad I was able to get the slip since it is sold out on the VS website 🙏

Just got mine too. I was a bit confused to how the intro to Seven to One got cut. Maybe they didn't have access to it or because of copyright reasons? I'm not too sure. Still a cool movie. It was also surprising hearing a bunch of classic rock selections played while Polly Shang was kicking butt

I suspect the print was shredded.  There's some jump cuts from missing frames throughout the film.  It's likely why they packaged it as a double feature.

Shaolin Invincible was an enjoyable watch. I was nice to see Flash Legs Tan in the film. I did like the print damage and scratches, it gave both movies the Grindhouse feel. I sure hope AGFA does put out Shaolin VS Wu Tang that they teased last week. That 2K remastered looks incredible. Shout out to these boutique labels going the extra mole for releasing these Asian Hidden Jems 🙏 🐲🥋👊👍

I think that bit was lost due to dammage, as the music cue "Hocus Pocus" still shows up later in the movie.

Got mine yesterday. Went for the slipcover version. I do understand that some people say that the gorilla cover fits for this kind of movie. Nevertheless I would have preferred one with original poster art or with Polly Shang Kwan or Carter Wong as others have stated before.

The most important thing is that those kind of movies are released on Blu-ray at all. The fact that the limited 2,000 pieces are already sold out proves that there is a market for it.

Hopefully there are more to come. The "trailer reel from the AGFA vaults" from the Blu-ray has some good flicks.

Made a list of it:

1. Attack To Kill: Wang Yu, Judy Lee, Chang Yi (https://hkmdb.com/db/movies/view.mhtml?id=9464&display_set=eng)

2. Fists For Revenge (https://hkmdb.com/db/movies/view.mhtml?id=9855&display_set=eng)

3. The Flying Fists: Wong Tao, Lo Lieh, Doris Lung Chun Erh (https://hkmdb.com/db/movies/view.mhtml?id=13470&display_set=eng)

4. <NOT IDENTIFIED>: Dorian Tan Tao Liang, Chen Sing (CAN YOU HELP?)

5. The Dynamite Trio (https://hkmdb.com/db/movies/view.mhtml?id=9214&display_set=eng)

6. The Eagle's Killer: John Chiang, Wong Jang Lee, Fan Mei Sheng (https://hkmdb.com/db/movies/view.mhtml?id=6202&display_set=eng) This trailer has the old Golden Harvest logo in it.

7. Queen Boxer: Judy Lee (https://hkmdb.com/db/movies/view.mhtml?id=5317&display_set=eng) In the trailer the picture is zoomed in. There is missing picture information on all sides. :sad

8. The Man From Hong Kong: Wang Yu, George Lazenby (https://hkmdb.com/db/movies/view.mhtml?id=5621&display_set=eng)

9. Force Four (https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0072707/)

10. Force: Five: Joe Lewis, Benny Urquidez, Richard Norton (https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0082399/?ref_=fn_al_tt_1)

11. The Black Morning Glory: Michelle Reis, Waise Lee (https://hkmdb.com/db/movies/view.mhtml?id=7762&display_set=eng)

12. Cheetah On Fire: Gordon Liu, Donny Yen (https://hkmdb.com/db/movies/view.mhtml?id=7620&display_set=eng)

Unfortunately, many of the films are english language versions with really bad dubbing. Hopefully the original soundtrack with English subtitles will be included when it is released on Blu-ray.

I wish that they release the following titles first:
The Eagle's Killer, the (to me) unknown Dorian Tan movie, Cheetah On Fire

What are your favorites?

No, there is no announcement that those titles will be released on Blu-ray. On the disc of "Shaolin Invincibles"/"Seven To One" is a feature called "trailer reel from the AGFA vaults". It goes about half an hour. It is simply a variation of trailers put together. There is no info if they have the full length movies of the clips nor that they will release one of these on Blu-ray ... but it could be so. :smile

I contacted AGFA for infos. Will post it here if I get an answer.

‘Cheetah on Fire’ is coming out in Germany with newly remastered English subtitles.

’Avenger’ (AKA ‘Queen Boxer’) is owned by Warner Bros, so I don’t know if that’ll be coming out from anyone else (maybe it’s just trailers).

I noticed this aswell and find it very interesting! I'm wondering if they might have been distributers of the film, or maybe even bought the rights to it at some point.

I’ve heard very little talk about the Made in Hong Kong set, are the movies that bad, or is it because they’re not martial arts films?

Because they're underrated Category 3 flims that Anthony Wong stared in aren't as well known as let's say "The Untold Story"

I wonder when Made in Hong Kong Vol 2 will release. I imagine they have at least a few more films they plan on releasing in a boxset if they called the first vol 1.

Thanks for the info.

Just checked for home media releases. Seems like only a laserdisc version exists. :sad

Our friend @bigrogie and his FuSubs team released a good Mandarin-English subbed version years ago, and I think that there still should be some English version dvds on ebay, maybe bootlegs or Vengeance Video, I don't remember which one I have in addition to the FuSubs one.

Anyone else pleasantly surprised by the audio commentary on Bullets Over Summer? I'm familiar with Kevin Ma (congrats on him being a newlywed btw) for his subtitle work and from POF but I was surprised by filmmaker and academic, Valerie Soe. Judging by her twitter feed, I thought she was a typical pronoun spouting boba liberal but she was very pleasant to listen to and while not as knowledgeable as Kevin Ma, which is not surprising since she's not a native HK'er, she added quite a bit to the conversation and it wasn't one sided as I anticipated going in. I wouldn't mind hearing her again on other Asian film commentaries in the future.

I made an enormous mistake ! All what I said above was about the movie Revenge of the shaolin Kid, not Revenge of the shaolin Master, sorry, sorry  !

I got a French language DVD of this latter many years ago, from Bach Films, if I'm not mistaken, and all I was able to see later was bootlegs on ebay.

He was part of the Fusubs team? I thought it was Gerry and Hanna and @KUNG FU BOB did the covers for them?

Finally got around to watching Made in Hong Kong Vol. 1 and while all 3 movies are pretty shit, I'm still anticipating Vol. 2. Hopefully some better films are included in that one.

I did enjoy the audio commentary from the Hysteria Lives/Continues! blog/podcast guys. They admitted they aren't well versed in HK cinema other than just the few slasher/horror flicks of that period but they were fairly entertaining to listen to and hope to see them again in Vol. 2 doing more commentaries.
