Member laagi Posted August 4, 2021 Member Share Posted August 4, 2021 It's great to see HK cinema is still alive! This is such a slow and depressing movie. Also it doesn't shy away to openly criticize the local government for its treatment of the homeless. Something we probably won't be seeing again anytime soon due to new (chinese) censorship laws. Inspired by true events which had 19 homeless sue the governemt for their eviction and discarding of their property. Which ended in a victory and compensation of 2000HKD/each. However the governemt refuses to apologize for their action to this day. And according to the filmmaker this is still happening. Francis Ng takes the center stage and does shine with his performance. A character who's stuck but still refuses to give up and demands to be treated with respect and met with dignity. I think something all humans deserve. The movie shines a close light on a life most of society probably wishes not to be confronted with. It also sends a clear message on the way HK seems to treat them. A special mention to Cecilia Choi for her performace as the social worker. She does it in such a natural and human way, it's just excellent. Not your everyday movie and probably not something most will seek out. Nevertheless this comes highly recommended!
