Member AlbertV Posted June 23, 2021 Member Share Posted June 23, 2021 (edited) 24-year old Mackenyu Arata has been making waves as of late in Japan. Born on November 16, 1996 in Los Angeles, California, Arata was born Mackenyu Maeda, the son of legendary Japanese actor Sonny Chiba (Sadao Maeda) and his ex-wife Tamami. At the age of 8, Arata began training in his father's martial art of Kyokushin Karate and had competed in tournaments. Here he is in 2009 (hes the green belt karateka): Despite appearing in some small TV and film roles, Arata spent most of his childhood with school, karate, horseback riding, and Yasumane, a style of Japanese archery. It was when he turned 15 that he was bitten by the acting bug when he saw actor Haruma Miura in a project. Arata soon turned to acting and had appeared in both Japanese and U.S. projects including Buzz, and the martial arts drama Take a Chance. The live-action adaptation of the manga Chihayafuru would be Arata's breakout role and since then, he has had more major roles, including appearing in Pacific Rim: Uprising and most recently, the lead villain role of Enishi Yukihiro in Rurouni Kenshin: The Final. Arata even joined his longtime idol, Haruma Miura, as they worked together on Brave, which marks Miura's last performance as he died in July 2020. In April 2021, Arata announced he will be taking a break from Japanese projects to work on overseas projects. Arata speaks English and Japanese.
